Reading Success !!
Every student in our school, kindergarten-4th grade, is expected to read for a period of 20 minutes nightly. The research shows that reading 15 minutes-30 minutes each night will help your child be a more proficient reader and will be much more successful in school. This is so very important that we are asking parents to sign their child's reading logs each week. Educating your child is one of the most important jobs we have and we must collaborate on this in order to make the most gains. We can not do this huge job without your continued help and support.
Third Grade IREAD- 3
IREAD-3 is a test that is required by state law. This test measures reading skill of third grade students. Students who do not pass IREAD-3 in the spring will have an opportunity for remediation and are able to retest after the end of school. It is very important that your child spend time reading each evening in order for them to be best prepared for this upcoming March 2019 test.
Students who do not pass the spring and summer administrations of IREAD-3 will continue to receive instruction in Grade 3 reading, will officially be reported as a third grader, and will fully participate in the Grade 3 ILEARNassessment. There are some exemptions to this law. If you would like to know more about IREAD-3, please visit the Indiana Department of Education website:
Edgelea Needs Kids Clothing Donations
This will not come as a surprise, but we sometimes have kids who have some type of mishap and need clean clothing at school.
We have had several boys jeans and sweat pants donated, however, we are still in need of girls pants, jeans, and leggings. We could also use sweatshirts and socks for both boys and girls. We will gladly take winter boots and coats, too. Please send your donations to the nurse's office. Thank you to those who have donated or are planning to donate.

Did you know??
Indiana’s Employability Skills Standards allow students to be prepared for the ever-changing needs of today’s workforce. These standards are to be implemented beginning in the 2019-2020 school year. The expectation is for students to work through the standards in multi-subject areas. As students move through grade levels, they will work with and experience the standards at those grade bands (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-10, and 11-12).
The standards are based on the National Employability Skill Standards from the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE), the Indiana Department of Workforce Development’s Employability Skills Benchmarks, the Governor’s Work Ethic Certificate, and the Indiana Department of Education’s Social Emotional Learning Competencies. The standards are arranged within four key areas: Mindsets (M), Work Ethic (WE), Learning Strategies (LS), and Social and Emotional Skills (SE).
Employability skills are integrated into our curriculum each week.
