Final Message from Mr. Hanzeli...for now :-)

Dear Elger Bay Parents and Guardians,

We are bringing the school year to a full stop at the end of this coming week. Even as we do that, all of us have our minds on what is going to happen with next school year and when will I know?

As you may have heard, the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) put out guidance yesterday. It does not really define specifically what each district will do, but gives direction for what needs to happen in preparation. Stanwood-Camano School District will be hard at work putting together our local plan. To that end, as we head into the quieter months of July and early August, please make sure you monitor the school district website for any specific updates that might happen during this time period.

In the meanwhile, please know that I am thinking of your children, hoping they are each happy and healthy, as we move through these difficult times.

When: OPENS at 10:00 am and CLOSES at 1:00 pm, weekdays, through June 19.

Grades K - 4 Yearbooks: Parent or guardian may use the drive through and pick up the yearbook that they purchased earlier. Be prepared to let the paraeducator working the line know the homeroom teacher and student name for the yearbook.

Grade 5 Yearbook: The PTA has very generously donated a yearbook to each of the Grade 5 students. These will be delivered along with the other goodies per the Grade 5 Promotion Celebration Options (see below for details).

NOTE: There are NO EXTRA YEARBOOKS for purchase.

Anyone in Grades K - 5 Withdrawing or Moving Out of District: If that describes you, please use the drive through to return your chromebook and charger.

All other students who have had a chromebook checked out to them may hang onto them for the summer. This applies to the Grade 5 students going to middle school, and other students joining Saratoga School. The chromebook is considered checked out to the student.

Note: The Clever Portal will remain open during the summer, but some of the software licensing available may expire. Many types of learning activity will remain active.

397 Library Books Still Checked Out

Please take a few minutes at home to locate library books that have not yet been returned. We are trying really hard not to send out fine notices but there are still a large number of books checked out. Thanks for helping with this search.

Library Books: Return bins will be located daily at the main (front) drive through as well as the grab-and-go food line (north lane).

Student Items Not Yet Claimed

We have been calling, and will call one more time to each of these families to have someone come and pick up the items that were pulled from each child's desk when we closed in March.

Please consider this a final notification as we will throw out / donate any remaining items after June 26.

A Few Grade Level Material Handoffs (teacher will be present)

I have checked in with grades K - 4 to see if they have any "last items" they would like to hand off to families. Per the following schedule, teachers from these classes will be on hand to pass along a portfolio or memory book. Here is that schedule:

- Mrs. Klempel / Mrs. Thomaier: Monday, June 15, 10:00 - 1:00

- Mrs. San Nicolas: Monday, June 15, 10:00 - 1:00

- Ms. Layton's will not quite be ready by June 19. She will package them and either arrange handoff with families or they will be stored in the office for handoff in August.

Mrs. Mosteller, Mrs. Jansma, Mrs. Cruise: Tuesday, June 16

(special directions, see below)

Grade 5 Student Promotion Recognition (Updated Plan w/ Options)

Hello Fifth Grade Elger Bay Families,

Here is the FINAL version of our grade 5 student promotion recognition plan.

On Wednesday, June 17, 1:00-2:30, there is scheduled a special time slot for grade 5 students to have their parent drive through at the front of the school to receive a farewell congratulations packet that the staff have so lovingly put together. Using proper social distancing we are hoping to have some of our staff lining the walkway as the G5 students are driven through.

But don't fret....

If for some reason you are unable to make this time slot in order for your child to receive their promotion gift and congratulations, your child's teacher is still planning to drive by your home to try and present the gift.

Mrs. Anderson will do her home deliveries on Wednesday, June 17, 4:00-7:00

Mrs. Slagg will do her home deliveries on Thursday, June 18, 4:00-7:00

To keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible, we will do that presentation outside your front door / porch (unless you would rather we not).

Your children are so amazing and we so deeply appreciate the chance to recognize them at this time. Thank you for being so flexible in this regard.

Our most wonderful librarian, Mrs. Seri Chaplik, is sending along the following information from the great folks in our local Camano / Sno-Isle libraries. Check it out!
