This newsletter is sent periodically to the Board of Directors as a means of keeping the board up-to-date with special events and activities of the staff of The Alpha Center.

Alpha Center Represented at the Annual Mental Health Fair

On November 21, 2014, Rosemary, Bill, Monica, and Cayron began getting the table ready early for the annual Mental Health Fair at the CrossPoint Church of Christ. Sponsored by The Renaissance Center at ECM Hospital, staff members mingled with fellow professionals and the general public at this community gathering that allows area agencies to advertise their services.

Speakers at the event included Tim Glover (Lauderdale County Drug Task Force), Dr. Carole Dabbs (NAMI Board of Directors), Drew Jamieson (Family Counseling Services), and Elizabeth Gregory (Amedisys).

Depression Class for Seniors

Bill received a warm welcome at the Cullman Church of Christ when invited to speak on depression and grief in November.

Chi Sigma Iota Annual Fall Breakfast - November 15, 2014

Chi Sigma Iota is an international honor society society that values academic and professional excellence in counseling. Monica and Cayron were featured speakers at the 2014 annual breakfast on the campus of the University of North Alabama.

Special Speaker Series at Mayfair Church of Christ

Rosemary, Monica, and Betty are currently wrapping up their speaker series for ladies at the Mayfair Church of Christ in Huntsville. The Alpha Center's counselors presented on timely topics of substance addiction, suicide, cyber-addiction, depression, domestic violence, and other essential topics that affect today's families.

Small Details

Several helpful books are now on display with stickers inviting clients and their families to take a look. Bibliotherapy has become a major therapeutic tool. After looking, some have inquired about purchasing Betty's Emotional Fitness. Others have asked about availability of books, giving us opportunity to promote the more than 7,000 items in the Heritage Marriage and Family Resource Center.

Holding on to "Hope"

The Alpha Center held on to HOPE on November 20th in observance of Children's Grief Awareness Day.

The mission of Children's Grief Awareness Day is to help grieving children feel less alone and more supported through changing the culture surrounding children and grief. By downloading and printing "Hope" the butterfly, The Alpha Center showed support for this international day of support. The date for next year's CGAD is November 15, 2015.
