Nucleic Acid
The worlds BEST macromolecule!
Why is it the most interesting?
Nucleic Acids are the most important macromolecule! They are found in almost all living things as they encode, transmit, and express genetic information. They make up the genetic information in all living things. We would not be able to survive without nucleic acid and we would not be who we are if it wasn't for them!
Example of health benefit- Folic acid is an example of something that affects nucleic acid and benefits your health. It contributes to the functioning of DNA and RNA. Folic acid supports healthy pregnancy and treats cancer.
Elements
DNA and RNA are made up from nucleotides called adenine, thymine, guanine, cytosine, and uracil.
Functions
Nucleic Acid makes up genetic information in living things
They carry instructions for the genetic code
They help the cells produce proteins
Examples
DNA- (deoxyribonucleic acid) the instructions for all living organisms: it is the carrier of genetic information that gives things unique characteristics/ qualities
Fruits/ Veggies- Every cell within a fruit or vegtable contains cells that are rich in nucleic acids
