Road to Revolution
The main events leading to the revolution included many taxes. These taxes were placed on things such as glass, lead, sugar, molasses, tea, and stamps. All of these taxes managed to make the Americans very mad. These taxes were most of the reason why America left Britain. The Americans begged for representation with taxation. 1764 was when the first tax was imposed.
Lexignton and Concord April 19, 1775
April 19 1775 was the date of Lexington and Concord. All of this started when Paul revere had his famous midnight ride and warned of a attack. The minuet ready militia was preparing for the British attack. At this battle no one knows who fired the first shot. The militia was not well supplied but managed to defeat the British at this battle. This battle gave America a boost in spirit.
Comon Sense Janury 10, 1776
This book was written by Thomas Paine. Thomas Paine was a very radical writer. This book gave colonist the urge to break away from Britain. Thomas Paine pushed heavily for independence. Without Thomas Paine America might not have fought for independence.
Decleration of Independence July 4, 1776
Independence was formally declared July 2, but the declaration was approved July 4 1776 by congress. The biggest signature on the declaration is John Adams. George Washington did not sign the declaration. The second congress continental was responsible for declaring independence. A big risk was taken by signing this document.
Battle of Saratoga September 19-October 7 1777
This battle lasted from September 19-October 7 1777. This battle was a turning point in the war. On September 19 the British had won a costly battle that weakened them. On October 7 America won a battle that changed the war. This victory gave France confidence in America and they entered the war as allies of America. America gained a lot from this battle.
Winter at valley forge 1777-1778
This is where the continental army spent the winter of 1777-1778. More than 2500 soldiers died that winter. Bad weather conditions and poor supplies were causes of most deaths. Marquis de Lafayette helped George Washington at valley forge at the of 16. If not for him more soldiers could of died. He had a significant role here.
Batlle of yorktown 1781
This battle gave America the last victory in the war on October 19 1781. Britain was forced to surrender after their defeat at this battle. Britain attacked Yorktown with 9000 troops. America was out numbered by 4000 soldiers at this battle. The strategy used by America in this battle was to circle around the British and it worked.
Treaty of Paris, 1783
This treaty ended the American Revolution. This treaty gave American the independence they fought for. Thomas Jefferson was part of the commission for America but did not leave in time to negotiate. Benjamin Franklin and John Adams were also apart of the commission. The french played a role in Americas diplomatic strategy.
