Message From Mr. G
May is here and before you know it our school year will be over. But before we send our students off to summer vacation and points beyond we have many fun events scheduled in order to celebrate a wonderful year.
While BEC does not hold a "graduation" ceremony we do have Kindergarten Blast Off, a short program during which our students will perform a selection of songs for you and we take the opportunity to honor them for their achievements at BEC! We hold Blast Off over two nights at the Holt High School Auditorium. Doors open each night at 6:45. The program will start at 7:00 both nights. Thursday, May 16 classes from the 100 and 200 hallways will blast off and Friday, May 17 the students from the 300 hallway will blast off. Not sure which hallway is your child's? No problem, click here. Our staff will be staged, sorted by classroom number, in the hallways waiting for your children. Once you leave your child at their classroom's rally point you may enter the auditorium. After the program you will return to the same location to pick up your child. We will have "photo booths" and backdrops set up for great photo opportunities. Many families dress up for the occasion to get the best possible photos and to make the best memories!
Due to space limitation, this program is only for the families of students that will be going to elementary school next year.
We have enjoyed being a part of your children's lives and we are grateful for the opportunity to help them grow into the person you want them to be. We look forward to wishing a fond farewell to our kindergarten-bound students and we of course we are already planning great improvements and fun activities for the students returning to BEC in August!

Ms. Tara Awarded WSD Foundation Grant
Many students need to take sensory breaks to help them regulate their physiological states. Dysregulated students struggle to engage in instruction. Sensory breaks help student to maximize their levels of engagement. Ms. Tara applied for and won a WSD Foundation Grant to create different sensory paths in our building to support students who are dysregulated and/or are needing a sensory break from the classroom. Sensory paths help build connections in the brain that are responsible for our senses, which help kids to develop motor skills like balance, hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness. The sensory paths will contain different upper and lower body movements that are used to help a child exert energy. While completing the paths the students will also learn different strategies to help with self-regulation and teach them different ways to self-regulate, such as slow and controlled belly breathing strategies. The path will be an effective tool students can use to help them regulate themselves and maximize their learning. Some students may use the path on regularly scheduled daily visits to regulate their bodies and get them ready to learn. Other students may use the paths sporadically, such as when they are having a difficult day, when a task is extremely difficult, or any other time they need help regulating their bodies. It would be available to any student, at any time, to access as they see fit.
Thank you Ms. Tara for going above and beyond for our students!
Ms. Tara was awarded a grant by members of the WSD Foundation, Dan Schroeder, Susan Hladky & Martin Ghafoori. Dr. Cain and Mary Lapak were at the presentation too!

Thank you to all the Mom's and special people who attended the "Muffins for Mom" event and shopped at the BOGO Book Fair. We had a tremendous turnout! The book fair earned a total of $3786.00! Due to your generosity, we collected and extra $283.00 in change for the "All for Books". That allowed us to purchase 78 new books for our library.

Please remember to help your child return their book to school. Notices for late books will be coming home the week of May 20th.
