Patriot Ticket Winners

Congratulations Olivia Letson, Olivia Anderson, Tristan Miller, and Abby Johnson for being selected as the first Patriot Ticket winners. Students received Patriot Tickets for displaying positive behavior at school. Their tickets were entered into a drawing to win gift cards and their tickets were selected. We draw tickets on Fridays and students can win food, gift cards, and other fun prizes.

Teen Mental Health First Aid Training (tMHFA) coming to Westwood High School Students

Beginning February 20th, all students in grade 10 will be participating in Teen Mental Health First Aid Training at Westwood High School. A letter went home this past week to all parents and guardians of students in 10th grade with information on the training.

Our partners in delivering the training will be offering an optional information night for caregivers and students on Wednesday, February 15th, from 6:30-7:00pm for parents/guardians and 7:00-7:30 for students. These are optional opportunities for people to learn more or ask questions. Below is a link and attached is a flyer with more information about the information session.

WHS Welding Student Fabricates Winter Side-by-Side Trailer

WHS student engineer and craftsman TJ Seablom built a side-by-side trailer from scratch for Down Wind Sports to help transport individuals to and from adventures during the winter months. Excellent work, TJ!

Thank you to our Welding and Autos Director Mr. John Jessen for providing the tools and resources as well as helping TJ along the way!

WHS Bowlers Earn UP Honors

Five of our WHS Girls Bowlers made the top 16 in bracket play this past weekend in the Girls Singles U.P. Championships held at Superior Lanes in Marquette. The bracket was determined after six games of qualifying.

-Kylie Junak (2nd) lost in the second round

-Kirsten LaMere (3rd) advanced to the final round

-Kaitlyn Moebius (11th) lost in the first round

-Olivia Letson (10th) lost in the first round

-Elise Ketola (4th) advanced to the final round

In the final round, Elise Ketola faced teammate Kirsten LaMere for the championship. Elise took first place and Kirsten took second. This is back-to-back U.P. Girls Singles titles for Elise Ketola!

WHS Girls Swim & Dive Win the Polar Bear Plunge!

Great job to our WHS Girls Swim & Dive team for winning the Polar Bear Plunge held last night at Westwood High School. Westwood scored 97 points to win the meet over Ishpeming/Negaunee (79) and Manistique (46).

The WHS Swimmers and Divers are gearing up for the U.P. Finals. The U.P. Finals for Diving will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023, and U.P. Finals for Swimming will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Marquette Senior High School for both.

NMU GenCyber Cybersecurity Summer Camp for High School Students

High School students are invited to apply for the GenCyber Summer Camp, a free academic, two-week residential camp taking place July 9-21, 2023, on the campus of Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich. Students will explore cybersecurity topics and learn the fundamentals of cybersecurity from CompTIA Security and Cyber.org while living on campus.

This camp covers all necessary fees and transportation associated with field experiences and will use the facilities and technology of Northern Michigan University. The camp is free to accepted applicants due to a GenCyber Grant through the National Security Agency.

The application deadline is March 3, 2023.
