Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 25th March 2022
Times Tables Rockstars
Times tables/numbot rockstars
On Wednesday, the children looked fabulous dressed up as NumBots and Rock Stars and in the afternoon children from Years 1 to 6 came together outside for a celebration worship. All the children who took part got certificates. There were awards for the best dressed Rock Stars/NumBots, 1st /2nd /3rd certificates for the children who earnt the most coins and had the highest accuracy in Year 1 and 2 and for children in Year 3- 6 certificates for the children who answered the most questions per second. Extra rewards were given to the 9 children from Year 3 to Year 6 who are Rock Heroes, all of whom can answer multiplication/division questions in less than a minute. I wonder how many more we can have by the end of the school year and whether any will be the new Guinness World record holder? The final announcements were the winners between the class battles; Year 1, Year 4 and Year 5 were the winners and all picked extra playtime as their reward.
Children in Nursery and Reception even joined in on Wednesday dressing up and completing lots of different maths games throughout the day.
Well done to all the children who worked extra hard on Times Table Rock Stars and NumBots this week!
Red Arrows Fly past
The Red Arrows were in the air yesterday to perform a farewell flypass for 100 Squadron at RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire. Everyone in the school gathered outside to see the planes flying over the school on their journey from their base in Lincolnshire up to Leeming. It was a very impressive sight!
Year 4 go digging!
Year 4 visit jorvik and the Dig
Wow! What an amazing day at Jorvik and the DIG!
On Thursday, Year 4 went to the Jorvik museum and the DIG in York. At Jorvik, the children experienced what it would have felt (and smelt) like to live in a real Viking town. Afterwards, we headed to the museum to find out more about the primary sources found under Coppergate. They even saw a fossilised poo and watched whilst a Viking coin was pressed and shaped.
Unsurprisingly, the DIG didn’t fail to impress. Children learnt more about primary and secondary sources before becoming curious archaeologists. They took their tools and starting digging in four different areas. They found human skeletons under a medieval graveyard, pottery under the Victorian house, pig skeletons under the Viking back yard and coins under the Roman fort. A truly unforgettable experience!
But...the fun didn’t end there. After lunch, children took part in a Viking Battle Tactics workshop. They saw a variety of Viking weapons and some of them even formed a shield wall. It is safe to say, we all had a fantastic day.

SIAMS Inspection
The Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) is the Church of England and Methodist Church’s national system for inspection of Church Schools. These inspections occur approximately every five years, and explore “How effective is the school’s distinctive Christian vision, in enabling pupils and adults to flourish?”
On Wednesday 30th March 2022, our school will have an inspection and we are sure that the inspector will be extremely impressed by the fantastic children in our school.
After the inspection a report is produced which will be made available to all parents and carers.
