7th Grade Life Science
Mrs. Terra Brown's Class - Team 7 Alpha
This week - Genetics
We have been working on progressive genetic assignments throughout the week. The first assignment was to have the students complete 14 vocabulary words in the K.I.M. format. The second assignments were worksheets that assessed basic knowledge of the vocabulary words. The third assignment is more of a hands on manipulation of a Punnett square and the applied use of the vocabulary words. The fourth and final assignment is a lab predicting results in which the student must analyze his/her data and observations.
Most of this work is completed independently and then reviewed individually with Mrs. Brown. During this week your child has been able to utilize a listening device in class to help with concentration. This strategy is having a positive impact on many of the students.

Homework?!
Homework is required in Life Science but not in the traditional sense. Rarely will a worksheet or assignment come home to be completed independently - unless the assignment was started in class and needs to be finished before the next class period.
Homework is to... Practice! Practice! Practice! STUDYING the vocabulary will be key! The students will create foldables, flashcards, graphic organizers, and other study guides in class to aid with their learning of the vocabulary. If the science information is reviewed nightly for at least a concentrated 10 minutes, your child will have success!
Most science classes boil down to a vocabulary class with scientific concepts that apply this vocabulary. If a student doesn't understand the vocabulary, the scientific concept is more difficult to grasp.
Mrs. Brown is available to help with an assignment, tutor, provide extra time with the teacher, etc. each morning, Monday through Thursday, starting at 7:45 AM. She loves science and she loves helping students! After-school SOAR tutoring session are available with Mrs. Haymore on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:10-5:10. If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Brown.
Last Week News!!
Last week Dr. Rossi from NeuroATL Chiropractic came and visited during our 1st period class. He led a very interesting and fact laden discussion about the organization of life, how cells interact, and how all of our body systems are linked together. Ask your student about the "awaken" exercise done at the end of the talk.
The Veteran's Day helicopter exploration, Spearman biplane fly over, and AWESOME assembly was enjoyed by all!
