STAAR Testing
You have worked really hard with your students, and now it's time for them to shine! Please make sure you are here the next two days. Barring a medical or family emergency... I need you here! Your kids need you here!
The next two days will be boring. The next two days will be long. I wish I could tell you something different, but it would not be true. Do what you need to do to prepare mentally and physically for those days. Have your manual handy and tabbed for reading directions and the statements you must say verbatim.
On Monday during 4th period, please remind students where they will be testing on Tuesday.
**Before you leave on Monday...Please make sure your walls are covered and your classroom is arranged for testing. **
Tuesday 4/10 and Wednesday 4/11
· No visitors will be allowed on campus.
· 6th grade students will be with their 4th period teacher on both days. In May students will test in their 4th period class. Please use next week to build relationships with the students. Teachers will be responsible for coming up with work for the students. Please note that students will not transition between classes until testing is complete.
· 7th grade students will take Math DCA on Wednesday, April 11th in their testing classrooms. It is recommended that 7th grade teachers have additional work for the students for Wednesday which they can work on after they have completed their Math DCA.
As always if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the STAAR team.
Dismissal Procedures
If you are a classroom teacher and have students in your classroom during 8th period:
- You will enforce a level 0 voice level in order to properly hear announcements and modes of transportation being called.
- No electronic devices are allowed to be used by the students until they are in the gym (after all zones are called)
- You will enforce a “no movement” period until all zones are called. Students should remain seated and inside the classroom. 10/10 rule is in effect.
- You will use the attached form to ensure only the students whose mode of transportation has been called are released. Please make copies to use weekly. This is an expectation, not a suggestion.
- If a student is changing their mode of transportation, they will need to bring a note and turn it in to the front office. Front office staff will contact 8th period teacher to let him/her know of the changes.
- No changes will be allowed without a note.
- Once the student(s) is called, mark them off the list for your records.
- Once “ALL ZONES” are called please escort your students quietly to the gym. Please make sure you walk with your students and keep them quiet as we may announce another bus while zones are in route to the gym.
- BAND and ORCHESTA students – These students will get their instruments on the way to their 8th period. That means, right after they leave their 7th period class, they go get their instrument and go to 8th period. This will be the only time they will be allowed to get their instrument.
Dismissal Schedule
- 4:00 – 4:04 ASP (and Reach for the STAARs on Tues and Thurs) and 1st round of buses
- 4:05 – 4:08 Walkers, car riders – ILT funnels students out of the building and keeps them from coming back inside.
- 4:09 Second round of buses
- Approx. 4:15 Zones will be dismissed over the PA – athletes should come to the gym with zones. No athletes should be in the hallways.

AMS has 2 grade-level GT classes (7thgrade and 8th grade) available for GT students. Currently, the GT 8th grade class is working on a state-required final research project known as TPSP (Texas Performance Standards Project). The project comprises six typed pages – with references to ten sources, plus a product and a communication piece. The final product will be displayed in the library April 26th for teachers and students to critique. In addition, the top five will be selected for the GT showcase on May 2nd at AMS. Check out our proud GT students at work!
