Cardiff: The capital and largest city of Wales.

The ninth largest city in the United Kingdom with a population of approximately 350.000 people and a large variety of places of interest, Cardiff is a significant tourist centre and the most popular visitor destination in all of Wales.

The Welsh national war memorial, National museum of Wales, Queen street and Cardiff castle are all, amongst many others, popular tourist attractions and people travel from all over the world to get a chance to see them. In the year 2010, about 18.2 million people visited Cardiff and it has been ranked sixth in the world in National Geographic's alternative tourist destinations.

Music, Sports and Media

Even if you haven't been to Cardiff, or haven't so much as heard of it prior to reading this article, chances are you've seen it once or twice, or often, if you're a fan of british filmography. Doctor Who, Sherlock and Merlin are all TV series that are set and/or filmed in Cardiff and have gained immense popularity all around the globe. There are also a number of bands and musical artists that have links with the city, such as Catatonia, Super furry animals and Bullet for my valentine. It has been dubbed the second most musical city in the UK by PRS for music. Cardiff is also well know for it's commitment to sports and was just recently awarded the title of European capital of sport 2014. It plays host to many high-profile sporting events at local, national and international level.
