Revolution to Power
“It’s not about making money, it’s to make sure that it is used properly" -Fidel Castro
Castro and the U.S
In April 1961 exiles (sent out of Cuba by Casto), supported by the United States under John F. Kennedy, attempted an invasion of Cuba at the Bay of Pigs. The invasion failed. In December 1961 Castro merged all groups that had fought against Batista into the Integrated Revolutionary Organizations. In 1965 it became the Communist Party of Cuba the island's only ruling party. In foreign affairs Castro sort of sided with the Soviet Union. In October 1962 the Cuban Missile Crisis occured, where the United States faced off with the communist powers over the presence of Soviet-owned nuclear arms in Cuba. When President Kennedy avoided confrontation and directly negotiated the missiles' removal out of Cuba.
Castro's Government
Letter to Castro
Dear Fidel Castro,
I think you have done many great things for Cuba, you fought for the people and helped the economy. I believe it is time to chnge your government, it was smart to side with soviets. As of right now they cant support you, your neighbor the U.S is the only country left and they want to help you. In order for this to happen they expect you to shift your governemnt to a democratic one. This way your country gets the Embargo removed and you can save the country from poverty and horrible living conditions for the people like you did before. If you decide to leave your country as is, In fear you will be romeved out of power if a new government is put in place then that doesnt make you any better then Batista. All that you fought for will be a waist. I hope you make the right decision.
Sincerly,
Steve
