Viking Charge April Edition
End of the Quarter
The END is Near!
The last nine weeks are upon us, yes this is a great time, however, it is also a very busy time. Please continue to BE GREAT, each and everyday, and hold students accountable for their actions and their learning. As we continue to move forward please adhere to the policies and procedures and enforce them with fidelity. Though it is the end of the year we still want to be a united front and have a smooth remainder of the school year. Please check out the attached videos, articles, and powerpoint for additional strategies and encouragement. The powerpoint can actually be used in all of your classes as you begin test prep. If you have or need anything, do not hesitate to ask an administrator, we are here to support you! Let's finish STRONG!

Very, Very, Very, Important Reminders and Information (will change frequently)
Daily Test Strategies:
As we move closer to the testing window, actually 6 weeks until testing, please take about 10 minutes in each class to go over and review test taking strategies, in addition to having students complete practice test. You can find copies of previous released test on the NCDPI website.
Please use the attached PowerPoint detailing 15 strategies that you can use with your students. It is student friendly and a great resource.
Specifically, please have greater focus on these two areas:
-Informational Texts
-Building Stamina on Longer Passages
Setting the Expectation “Moving into the fourth quarter”:
As the quarter comes to an end, please continue to work with students on understanding expectations and procedures, especially, as the end of the year approaches.
Gradebook and End of the Quarter:
Please make sure that we are posting a minimum of two grades weekly and following the document that was provided to you at the beginning of the year. It is important that we do this so parents and students can monitor their academic success and ensure they are completing all assignments assigned. Gradebooks will be checked each Sunday!
Instructional Focus Areas:
· Data Walls: Should be updated regularly to monitor student progress and inform decision in PLCs.
· Small Group Instruction: Should have an area in your classroom where this can occur. If you need a table let admin know!
· Distributive Summarizing: Should occur periodically within the lesson.
