Seco Scoop
Arroyo Seco Jr. High School -- June 5, 2020
Principal's Message
Hello Seco Families,
The end of this incredibly challenging school year is here! We thank you for all of your support and hope that you and your family will be able to enjoy some down time and have a wonderful summer. Here are a few end of school year reminders and announcements:
Many of our incoming 7th grade families and returning 7th grade families have not yet completed the Online Registration process. See the explanation below and please complete this as soon as possible.
We will reach out once we have received the yearbooks and have determined how best to distribute them.
See below for information about summer school and links to the applications.
We are not sure at this time what summer check in or next school year will look like. We and/or the district will reach out as we have more information. To help us in the planning process, please complete this survey, if you have not done so already: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSePE0YW5X6VRiv2oFMeWd5bxgQ03L8zNlwxQkAE78cFTiv9Tw/viewform We value your input.
Thank you again for all of your ongoing support. We wish our eighth grade families well as they take the big next step to high school (we know you will do great!), and we look forward to seeing our 7th graders back on campus, along with our new incoming 7th graders. Stay safe and well and have a fantastic summer.
Nominate Your Favorite Teacher!
This appeared in the Santa Clarita Magazine on May 31, 2020:
I was researching quotes that inspire and I came across this:
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” — William A. Ward
As a parent, I connect deeply with this statement. It is something I strive to achieve daily in my journey as a mother. And as a mother, I hope that one day my children are lucky enough to be guided by some likeminded individuals.
We are fortunate to have some truly inspiring educators in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Has a teacher inspired or guided your education in the right direction? Maybe they inspired your career choice or gave you a push in the right direction. Let us know!
Send your nomination for the SCV’s Best Teacher Contest to: contest@santaclaritamagazine.com by June 30. Be sure to include a high-resolution photo, caption and write-up about your teacher, explaining why he or she deserves to win!
For more information, please call us at 661-294-4444 ext. 103 for the editorial department.
Online Registration (OLR)
The district's Online Registration (OLR) window for the 2020-2021 school year is now open! Thank you to those of you who have already completed it. Many of you still need to complete it -- please do this as soon as possible. This process helps provide needed information and reduces the amount of paperwork needed. Please note: this process must be completed before students can participate in the summer check in in August.
Please refer to the letter below (also sent previously by email) for detailed instructions.
If you have not yet created an Infinite Campus account, you must do so before you can complete the OLR process (the letter outlines how to do this).
Incoming 7th grade families, this is the next step in the registration process (you should have already completed online enrollment; online registration now needs to be done).
If you have specific questions or concerns, please contact our Registrar, Joy Williams, at jewilliams@hartdistrict.org
Thank you for your prompt attention to this!
Grade Change to Credit Process
Students may request a grade of credit to replace a letter grade of A, B, or C for any course taken during the Spring 2020 term as part of the district's adjusted grading policy for COVID-19. While this is more a concern at the high school level, this process is available for junior high students as well. Linked below are the finalized grade change instructions and forms.
Current 8th Grade Students: Students can view final course grades in Infinite Campus on June 8, 2020. Students may submit the electronic Temporary Credit Grade Change Petition form on June 9-10, 2020. Forms will be reviewed, and transcripts will be updated by June 16, 2020. Students can view their updated transcript in Infinite Campus after June 19, 2020. Please keep in mind that grades from the 8th grade do not appear on high school transcripts.
Students currently in grades 7: Students can view final course grades in Infinite Campus on June 8, 2020. Students can submit the electronic Temporary Credit Grade Change Petition between August 11, 2020 and December 17, 2020. Forms will be reviewed, and transcripts will be updated. Students can view their updated transcript in Infinite Campus two weeks after the form is approved.
