CR ED WEEK @ HCE- WEEK OF JAN. 16TH
PLEASE READ THE BELOW NEWSLETTER REGARDING CR ED WEEK IF YOU DID NOT READ THE SEPARATE EMAIL SENT EARLIER ABOUT THIS EVENT.
THERE ARE NEW PROCEDURES IN PLACE FOR ADDED SECURITY; SO PLEASE BE SURE TO READ THE ATTACHMENT AND PRE-REGISTER IF YOU PLAN TO VISIT ANY TIME DURING THIS WEEK.
CRSD CELL PHONE/SMART WATCH POLICY
During the holidays, students may have received SMART WATCHES or other electronic devices as presents. While these devices are awesome; please keep in mind that all Electronic Devices are against our District Policy. Even if text/phone usage is disabled on these devices, many still have the capability of taking photos & accessing the internet, etc. As a result, they are not permitted to be worn during the school day. All electronic devices should be turned off and remain in backpacks if they are brought to school.
Excerpt from CRSD/HCE Parent Handbook
The use of cell phones by students is prohibited during the school day or on the school bus (Section 1317.1 PA School Code). Students, who possess cell phones, must secure them in their backpacks/schoolbags throughout the school day, turned off, not silent or vibrate. This eliminates unnecessary interruptions to instruction.
Students may not use cell phones during lunch, recess or breaks. Cell phones are to remain off during the school day, including the school bus. In the event a student uses a cell phone (calling, texting, photographing or otherwise) or the phone rings, during the school day, the student will be asked to turn the cell phone off before releasing to staff. Following, the cell phone should be picked up by a parent/guardian/designated adult at their earliest convenience, in the main office during school hours. The Council Rock School District assumes no responsibility for cell phones or other electronic devices that are lost,
stolen or broken.
CR CARES- Day of Service
Beginning in 2005, students and staff of Council Rock have taken part in a day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This day of service is dedicated to meet the current needs of our community members.
This is Council Rock’s 18th year of paying homage to Dr. King’s call to service, a remarkably unifying event where we work to support community organizations such as the Bucks County Emergency Shelter in Levittown, the Wrightstown Food Cupboard, and the United Way Help Center.
For our students, staff, and community participants, it is a “day of learning” as much as it is a “day of service.” Thank you in advance to those who have volunteered to support our CR CARES day. Your kindness and generosity will go a long way, throughout the year.
We will be collecting items at Hillcrest until Wednesday, January 11th. Boxes will be located in the lobby for all donated items.
Current members are invited to bring a friend with them to our first rehearsal/open house!
A FOND FAREWELL TO MRS. MURPHY
Our building secretary, Mrs. Murphy transitioned to another position within the district. She will now be working at MMW with our beloved Mr. Vacca as his attendance clerk. Carol will be missed at HCE and we wish her the best of luck in her new position.
We will introduce our new secretary once they are hired and board approved. In the meantime a sub, Gina Yarnall, will be helping Mrs. Kunzig and Mrs. Jainnini in the main office.
(Mrs. Murphy is pictured on the right)
Hillcrest Is ROARING about “PAWS”ITIVE BEHAVIOR
We were so excited to see so many ROAR TICKET WINNERS come to the main office to Sign the Celebrity Book and Join the Principal's 100 Club. Each student selected a numbered paw and found their place on the P100 Board for a chance to win the Mystery Motivator.
The following children earned ROAR tickets for their exemplary work related to following our ROAR Rules. Congratulations!

THE BREAD SISTER OF SINKING CREEK
The students in the Fourth Grade Gifted Support class learned about the chemistry behind bread baking as an extension activity to their novel study of The Bread Sister of Sinking Creek. The students pretended to be children of the pioneer as they followed the very same recipe that was outlined in the novel from beginning to end. The learned how to cultivate their own baker’s yeast, and, as all good scientists do, they observed the process over a period of time, before preparing to make their dough. The students watched their dough double and triple in size overnight. Then, with the help of our fabulous kitchen staff, they were able to bake their bread, and enjoy the fruits of their labor when it was fresh from the oven! The students learned how much time and effort needed to be put into this seemingly ordinary item, and were fascinated with the chemistry in this process!

This is a reminder that morning supervision does not begin until 8:50 AM. If you are an early bird; we ask that your child remain in the car until 8:50 when staff are on site. We also encourage walkers to refrain from arriving early as well. We want to ensure that all students are supervised when they are on campus. Supervision begins at 8:50.
Thank you for your attention to this matter!
