Monrovia Middle School
2020-2021 1st Semester Guide
Wearing Masks
- Students and staff need to have a mask with them at all times
- Masks will be worn when we are unable to social distance - entering and exiting the building, passing periods, and small group work scenarios
- Each student should have a baggie to place their mask inside when it is not being worn
- Names should be written on the mask
- Cloth masks, gaiters, and buffs are acceptable (no bandannas). Any graphics must be school appropriate.
- We will receive one mask per student from the state. These will be provided to the student on the first day of school upon entrance to the bus or building.
Arrival and Dismissal
- Masks must be worn when entering and exiting the building, but can be removed once the student is seated at their desk in the classroom
- Students can no longer enter the building prior to 7:40 am, unless they are attending a pre-arranged meeting or ECA with a staff member, in which case the student needs to enter through the main office and check in with a member of the office staff
- Students will exit the building in waves (similar to the elementary structure) to ensure social distancing
Materials and Cleaning
- Students will sanitize their hands upon entering and exiting each classroom
- Students will have individual materials
- High touch items (such as lab equipment) will be cleaned at an increased rate
Locker Usage
- We will limit the amount of times a student visits their locker to ensure social distancing
- Students may visit their locker in the morning upon arrival, before and after PE class, before and after Lunch, and at dismissal
Lunch
- The middle school has added a 6th grade lunch time, which will be from 12 - 12:30 pm
- All students will have assigned tables, which will be chosen on the first day of school
- Lunch monitors will send the students to the line at a rate that allows for social distancing to occur
- Tables and chairs will be cleaned at an increased rate
Passing Periods
- We will shorten the passing period to 2 minutes for classes that take place in the middle school (if a student has a high school class he/she will still have the 4 minutes)
- Restroom breaks will be specifically scheduled for classes at the beginning or end of the class period
