AMS Parent Newsletter

September 23rd

Good Afternoon AMS Families

We will usually have a monthly newsletter the first Friday of the month, but this message comes to you asking for help in making AMS a safe and healthy learning environment for all.

Thank you to all who joined our virtual Back to School Open House on Tuesday. We had over 213 participants, and also recorded the sessions for all to listen at your convenience. The presentation and recordings are available here.

Important ways you can help:

  1. Masks are required at all times inside our school. Please be sure your child has a properly fitted mask with them every day. All are expected to wear masks properly covering their nose and mouth at all times in the building.

  2. Campus supervision begins at 8:30am. Students should not arrive until this time, unless supervised by a parent. You may stay on the playground with your child until 8:30 when supervision begins.

  3. Breakfast is available daily from 8:00am - 8:40am. If your child is going to purchase breakfast, they need to do so during this time. Students will not be allowed to eat in class.

  4. If students arrive to school after 8:45am, an adult must come inside and sign the child in. Please work to arrive between 8:30am - 8:40am to maximize student learning time.

  5. Our school bathrooms have been vandalized during the school day. This is a social media trend and impacting several schools across the country. Please talk with your children, monitor their social media accounts, and ask that they report any concerning behaviors to an adult as quickly as possible. Students found vandalizing school property will be held responsible for the cost of repairs and replacement and may be referred to law enforcement for vandalism charges.

  6. School attendance is important for student achievement! Please schedule appointments and trips outside of school time when possible.

  7. That being said, if your child is sick, please have them stay home and report their absence to the office. COVID testing will be recommended for students displaying symptoms consistent with COVID. See this handout on school health for guidance on keeping students home from school or child care.

  8. At lunch, students may purchase a meal and/or ala carte items. Students will be charged for each item they bring to the checkout. Ala Carte items range between $2.00 - $4.00, please talk with your children about your expectations for their purchasing. Please do not have your children buy snacks for friends.

  9. “Dress for success” at school means that all students will be wearing clothing appropriate for school. Clothing should cover all body parts and no messaging of drugs, alcohol, or profanity is allowed. Students will change clothes if necessary to complete their day and parents will be notified if this is a repeated problem.

  10. All middle school students are invited to high school football games to cheer on the Aspen High School Skiers, but students must have an adult chaperone in attendance. Students will be expected to be in the stands supporting the team, not wandering campus.

Thank you for your help making our school a great place to be!
