Prestwick LEarns: What did you do at school today?
We also took time this week to participate in safety drills so that each of our students are familiar with what to do in the event of emergency such as fire or lockdowns. Our campus has very detailed plans for these events and our rehearsal of these drills ensures our preparedness. Our staff reviewed procedures with learners and explained that both the drills this week were coming and a practice. We are pleased with how well our students did during both of these drills.
Often times we know parents wonder what your learners did at school. Unfortunately when you ask they might say "nothing." What we both know is that isn't true but often students need a little bit more of a lead or a sentence stem to get them sharing. Here are just a few ideas of how to get more of an answer that helps you appreciate the all the work they put in at school.
Check into our Prestwick LEarns section each week for highlights on the great learning taking place at Prestwick STEM Academy! #prestwickproud
Dress Code Important facts
Pants and other articles of clothing that are torn, ragged, frayed or with holes must have a covering underneath so that no skin is visible from shoulder blades to mid-thigh or longer in length.
Dresses, skirts, shorts, “skorts”, and jumpers must be mid-thigh length or longer.
Solution #1: For pants with rips which are above the mid-thigh student will need to have coverage below or above the holes or rips. They may be patched or wear other clothing below such as shorts or leggings. Students may also tape over the rips.
Solution #2: Students will need to change into shorts or pants that comply with the length. If they do not have a change they may borrow from nurse Julie. This proves to be most challenging with workout shorts so we ask that parents be mindful of this when your student elects what to wear to school.
If student attire is contrary to the dress code we will ask students to change if they have a change of clothes or call home for a change of clothes. The students are doing a great job in this area. We have incentives built in to target items that they love such as hat days and spirit days.
Be Aware: New Stop Signs
Also very importantly please do not use your cell phones when in our school zones. It takes full attention to make sure we are keeping all of our learners safe!
Staff Spotlight
This week we are putting the spotlight on Mrs. Bronner. She is our new Instructional Technologist at Prestwick. One of her major roles at PSA is to lead students to be creative in Makerspace.
Here is what she has to say about herself:
My name is Samantha Bronner, and I am excited to be the Instructional Technologist at Prestwick Stem Academy. This will be my tenth year teaching and first year at Prestwick. I live in Little Elm with my husband, our son, rabbit, and three dogs! When we aren't busy with our farm at home, we like to go to the movies, go swimming, and attend sporting events. I look forward to an amazing year with all of you!
