Jordan's Jots

As we move into the winter break, the Luxford Elementary School staff appreciates parents' support while we have navigated this unprecedented school year. Thank you for all the kind words and your patience as we have learned and re-learned the best ways to provide optimal educational experiences for your students whether we are face-to-face or virtual.

Please remind your students that their teachers will miss them while they are apart and will see them in 12 days! I hope you can take this time to reset and at least get a little break from the marathon we have all been running for quite some time now.

I sincerely wish you a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season and look forward to working together in the new year.

May 2021 bring us hope and a path back to some normalcy. Until then, we will continue to serve your children to the best of our ability.

Happy Holidays,

Mrs. Jordan

In the meantime, gifted applications can be accessed via https://giftedapplication.vbcps.com and are due by February 10, 2021, by 5:00 p.m. You will need your child’s login and password (the same information that he or she uses for the Chromebook each day). Please reach out to Sharon.Babbs@vbschools.com if you have any questions.

Rising 6th Graders:

Considering Middle School options?

There are 4 possible paths for middle school:

1. Zoned, neighborhood Middle School

2. Old Donation Middle School Academic Program

3. International Baccalaureate Program at Plaza Middle School (MYP program)

4. Visual Arts Program at Virginia Beach Middle School

Please reach out to our school counselor, Tracey.fahl@vbschools.com or Sharon.Babbs@vbschools.com with any questions as you consider the best placement for your child for 6th grade.

Finishing out the 2nd Quarter

As we return in January we will have four weeks of instruction to close out the second quarter. Please work with your students to make up any missed work and make a concerted effort to participate in their total school day, so they can demonstrate proficiency and earn marks for their report card.

Our specialists are missing students who are not participating in in art, music, or P.E. and they would really love to see your students participate in their classes so that they can provide guidance, teach them the needed skills, and provide grades.

Please remember that attendance in school is required and is very important so your child can progress throughout the school year and be able to move on to the next grade level for the 2021-2022 school year. Excessive absences can contribute to a decision to retain a student.

For students with significant absences, formal meetings will be scheduled beginning in January to develop a more formal plan of support.

Please reach out if you need assistance in any way. Our goal is to support all students and to help them be as successful as possible. We understand their may have been extenuating circumstances, so we will work together to come to a solution to help your child succeed.

Thank you in advance for keeping them on track and in school!

A BIG shout out to our PTA!

Our amazing PTA for the 2020-2021 school year has already done so many amazing things for our school. They have been working hard behind the scenes with multiple businesses and vendors to provide holiday “thank yous” to our teachers for working so hard. They have also worked hard to increase membership in our PTA that is vital in being able to provide support to the school community. The PTA continues to look for ways to support our school. More information will be forthcoming for activities in the second semester. Thanks again @LuxfordElementaryPTA for all you do for our school!

Family Voice Groups

The Office of Family and Community Engagement is inviting interested parents to join family voice groups to gain critical feedback from some of our most important stakeholders! Family voice groups are centered around equity and empowerment for families in the community. This group’s intention is to give identity and voice within a supportive environment. We want to listen and learn from families to increase the Division’s awareness of needs within the community. If you are interested in attending, please complete the google form here or you may contact Family Engagement Representative, Juhanna Frias at 757-524-2675 or Juhanna.Frias@vbschools.com.
