Personal Technology Device Reminder
We are aware that a number of students may be provided a personal technology device (cell phone, smart watch, or other electronic communication) for various family reasons. We do want to provide a reminder of our handbook language regarding the usage and storage of these devices at school. We appreciate your support of reminding your child of the expectations of their personal device when at school.
Personal Technology Devices
Students are prohibited from using personal electronic devices during the school day. This includes, but not limited to, cell phones, smart watches, iPods, and other electronic communication or entertainment equipment during the school day. However, students may use portable media players for instructional purposes if they have specific permission from the supervising teacher. Students who bring any of the above items to school must leave them turned off and store them in their locker, cubbie or backpacks. The school is not responsible for the security of such items and may examine electronic devices such as smart watches and cellular phones and search their contents if there is reason to believe that school policies or rules have been violated. Use of a cellular phone is subject to the provisions of the Waunakee Community School District Acceptable Use Policy (443.6 Electronic Communication Devices - Students). If students choose to use cell phones, smart watches, or electronic devices outside of the guidelines in the handbook or board policy they will be subject to restorative practices and logical administrative consequences.
The district may examine the cellular phone and search its contents if there is a reason to believe the school policies, rules or regulations have been violated. (Legal Ref.: Section 118.258 Wisconsin Statutes)
