Can you:

- manage settings and features in the Teams?
- mute members?
- add and delete students (members) and teachers (owners)?
- create assignments, post graded work, and submit feedback to students?
Try out Teams
- Open your Outlook email
- LEFT HAND CORNER OF RIBBON----Click on your APPS "waffle" and select Teams
- Click on Join or Create a Team at the bottom of the page
- Enter this code to join the Team ----
Instructions
After creating your own team in Task 1, work with a partner to complete the remaining tasks.
Task 1: Create a Class
- Click HERE to learn how to create a class
- Use the suggested naming sequence and create a class team--remember that students will see teams from all of their teachers, so if you share a last name with a colleague who also uses Teams, they will need a way to differentiate.
Example: LHS Alvarado Spanish 1st period
- Add your partner as a student (member)
Task 2: Manage Team Settings
- Click HERE to learn how to manage your Team
- Discuss with your partner which settings will be best for your class
Will you only allow teacher to create posts?
- Select desired settings for the class
- Notice the TEAM Code option- students can join the team with this code--Pro tip: the code expires after 24 hours, so you will need to reset for students who were absent the day your class joined the Team
Task 3: Create & Manage an Assignment
- Click HERE to learn how to create and manage assignments
- Teams has a few updates! Click HERE to learn more.
- Create a sample assignment for the student to complete. Example: Research Project Topic
- Add detailed directions--students will not see these directions once they open the resources you've added, so see the pro tip below.
- Specify what the students will turn-in by adding a resource (MS streamlined this by combining add a resource/specify what students will turn in) --Pro tip: create the resource in your OneDrive first and make sure it includes the instructions. When students open the resource, they will see your instructions on the document they must turn in.
- Give the assignment a value of 100 points
- Allow late turn-in
- Do you want to add a Rubric? Notice the rubric option--this is a new feature!
- Pro tip: You can add assignments to multiple teams by clicking the squares in the Assign to box. You can assign something to specific students by clicking the icon in the All students box.
- Notice the edit options once you've assigned the item.
Task 4: Complete and Assignment & Give Feedback
Complete assignment:
Open the assignment your partner created
Complete the assignment and submit it so your partner can add feedback and grade
Select the assignment and Review
Add feedback in the space provided by the grades
Add points to the assignment and POST
View Feedback as Student:
Check the Assignment after your partner adds feedback and points and POSTS
Task 5: Add a Channel & Features to a Channel
Think of a channel as a way to organize a unit, chapter, theme, etc. If the Team is a three-ring notebook, the channel is a divider!
- Click HERE to learn about channels
- Click the three dots to the right of your Team name
- Add channel & name it
Add items to your channel:
- Click the + in the tab area at the top of your channel
- Look at the options for things you can add directly into Teams (Flipgrid, Forms, etc.)
- Add a YouTube video or your school website
- Click the Files tab & try out the options
- Upload a file to your files tab or create a new file directly in the tab
- Click the Conversations tab & see what items you can add directly to this area --Pro tip: you can turn conversations on before a class starts if you want students to converse or collaborate within a channel. Turn conversations off at the end of class to disable posting when they leave your class.
Additional Tasks If You Have Time!
Create Teams for your classes
Take the remaining time to set up Teams for each of your classes
Learn how to use Class Notebook with Teams
Utilizing the Class Notebook feature in the General tab will allow each of your students to have a private place within Teams to add their own notes and materials. This means that your students can do all of their work in one place!
