GMS Principal's Corner
May 1, 2022
Dear Galvin Families,
Our students had a wonderful return to GMS this week, and participated in a variety of events. One highlight of the week was a visit with members of the CHS Robotics Teams. CHS students visited various classrooms, discussed and demonstrated to students components of the Robotics Program at the high school. CHS students also provided resources on how to become involved in Robotic programs. GMS students enjoyed watching the robots complete various tasks similar to a robotics competition.

Spring Clubs
This spring, we are pleased to offer 27 different clubs to help engage our students. Currently we have 226 students signed up - some clubs are filled; however, many clubs are still open such as Junior Canton Character Crew, Extreme Sports, Running, Girls' Basketball, Soccer, Walking, Art, and Homework Club.
Sign-ups are still open, please take advantage of this opportunity and get engaged at Galvin!
GMS Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week May 2-6th
This is a very special week as we get to recognize our outstanding teachers/staff at GMS.
Many parents have asked what they can do to help.
CAPT will be hosting a catered lunch from Main Course on Wednesday, May 4th. If anyone is interested in volunteering with set/clean up, please email galvincapt@gmail.com
Let’s Stock the Teacher’s Lounge Parents can send in non-perishable “to go” food items Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (May 2-4) with your child. There will be a collection area/box in the main lobby and or library entrance. CAPT will then organize and stock the cabinets in the teacher’s lounge.
Thank you cards – students can make non-teacher specific cards, posters, saying thank you to teachers and administrators at GMS. The cards can be place in the food box and CAPT will collect and hang to decorate the teacher’s lounge.
The above is 100% voluntary. But together we can make the teachers and staff feel extra special!!!
GMS Summer Scholars
At Galvin Middle School, our program will target students entering grades 7 and 8 who did not make sufficient progress during the school year to pass one or more core academic courses and incoming grade 6 students who have identified academic and transition support needs. This program will allow them the opportunity to revisit the power standards in ELA, math, science and social studies with the goal of meeting the standards necessary to move on to the next grade with the foundation necessary for success next year.
GMS Summer Scholars program will run from July 18th- August 11th
Monday through Thursday from 8am-11am at GMS.
.
Students who are chosen to participate in the GMS Summer Scholars program will engage in a Project Based Learning experience called "Challenges." This PBL unit will be based on the essential question: How do people develop resilience when faced with challenges? Students will read two novels, engage in math centers, and create a final product that shows their learning. More information will be coming soon.
