Academic Super Bowl

Our Academic Super Bowl team has worked hard over the last few months preparing and learning about World War I. This past weekend our students and coaches competed in the Indiana Academic Super Bowl Junior Division Competition. There were five rounds in the competition including Math, English, Science, Social Studies, and Interdisciplinary. Our kids did an amazing job representing BF! Here are the results:

Schedule Changes for 2018-2019 School Year

We are really excited to share with you some changes that will be made to our current middle school schedule beginning next school year! A scheduling committee met throughout the school year to discuss proposed changes. After receiving input from students, staff, and families, the changes below will be made to our schedule for the 2018-2019 school year. Builders Club Visits Hilltop Neighborhood House

This week our Builders Club visited Hilltop Neighborhood House. Our student mentors read books, put together puzzles, and created a special craft for the Hilltop kids. We are so fortunate to have student service leaders who represent our school and help our community. Thanks to our Builders Club, Mrs. Cubberley, and Ms. Payton!

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 7th-11th. We are certainly appreciative of all our teachers do for us! Thank you, Teachers!

Summer Fun Runs

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-6:00P.M.

Dates: June 12th, 14th, 19th, 21st, 26th, and 28th

July 10th, 12th, 17th, 19th, 24th, and 26th

*Cancellations can occur due to weather. Check Canvas page for updates.

Where: Meet at BFMS in front of the Annex Gym. This is located by the parking lot off of Park St.

Who: All Valparaiso middle school students who are interested in cross country or staying in shape over the summer! Parents are welcome to come and run/walk as well.

What to Bring: Incoming 6th graders or participants who did not participate in a sport during the 2017-2018 school year must have an athletic packet (BF) or current physical (TJ) turned into the office. These forms can be picked up at your school's main office. Runnings shoes, athletic clothes, and a water bottle are recommended as well.

Valpo Girls Basketball Camp

The Valpo Girls Basketball Camp starts on Monday, May 14th and will run from 3:30pm-5:00pm in the Ben Franklin Middle School Annex Gym until Thursday. Girls in grades 6 -8 are invited to work with Valparaiso Head Coach Candy Wilson, members of her high school coaching staff, and members of the Lady Viking High School Basketball Program. Players will work to develop their basketball skills along with participating in various skill competitions. Each camper will receive a camp shirt and work-out booklet. Forms are available in the main office or online on the Lady Viking website.

News From Our Guidance Department

A Note from Mrs. Sienkowski

It is so hard to believe that in a few weeks school will be out for the summer. Time flies when you're having fun! I want to thank you for your support of our school. Our BF family of students, parents, and staff is amazing and I am so fortunate to be a part of it. I have appreciated getting to know you and your kids this school year and I look forward to continuing the important work of ensuring our students have an education that will enhance their healthy growth as lifelong learners who are optimistic about the future and prepared to succeed. To our 8th graders and families, we will miss you and we thank you for all the great memories! We know you are on to amazing new challenges and experiences at the high school. We look forward to finishing our school year strong and creating memories to last a lifetime!
