Speech, Acting, and Debate Team
This past March, Otsego’s new competitive Speech, Acting, and Debate team qualified 4 of our students to the State Championship in Canton. Our students were involved in one of the twelve different speaking, acting, or debate categories alongside students from over 120 other schools. Jaiden McQuillin, Jade Wheeler, and Abbygail Bertonaschi qualified in the category called Student Congress, where they competed in a mock chamber as US Representatives. As a part of the competition, they proposed legislation and debated against other students to pass their policies. Jaiden received especially high rankings for the speeches that she delivered.
The Speech, Acting, and Debate team at Otsego was founded last year as part of State and National organizations that are a century old. The team has been representing our school district very well throughout our 14 yearly competitions, with students participating a range of chosen speaking categories that use acting, arguing, and research. Students compete for awards as well as scholarships that can cover the entire cost of college, including Harvard and Yale. Many prominent politicians, lawyers, actors, doctors, and other professionals have their beginnings in Speech and Debate programs across the country and our goal is to support and grow the next generation of future leaders in our own backyard. Announcing our NEW Summer Art Studio grade 7-12!!!
The BGSU School of Art would like to share an exciting new summer studio we are offering this summer for grades 7th – 12th
We are offering a 10 day Summer Studio Art Camp that will focus on TAB style teaching (Teaching Artistic Behaviors) or student center teaching rather than the traditional teacher centered. This is a fairly new concept in art education that is producing wonderful results with students. In a TAB style studio setting the students have a lot more say in the media and style they want to learn more about. The teachers roll is then to provide artistic inspiration, teach individuals technical skills in their media of choice and provide mini lesson that would introduce students to design and related materials they may not have experienced before. Students will also have the opportunity to learn more about portfolio development and art school admission.
•Our dates are: Wed. June 5th – Wed. June 19th
• Our times to meet: (Mon-Fri.) 12:30 – 3:30
• Our location: BGSU Fine Art Center
• Our cost for the 30hrs of instruction is only: $150 (payable by check only for this first year)
Being that this is our pilot summer we will be keeping the number small. If you as a 7th-12th grade is interested and/or you know of a friend that you would like to invite, please feel free to send them this invite.
Parents to register your son or daughter you may contact me directly and I can send you the registration forms. You can also simply register online at:
