Macleans Primary School Newsletter
Wednesday 28 June 2023
Macleans Primary School Community
Hi Everyone
Another term finished at Macleans Primary which means a two week break for the children. It is a well-deserved two week break for sure as all of the children at Macleans have worked very hard towards their learning goals. Supporting the Macleans Primary learning is the Macleans Primary School Values. The learning and values go hand-in-hand and it is so pleasing when I can have chat with any of the children - from Y1 to Y6 - and they can tell me about their learning and the Macleans Values. Thanks parents and whanau for all your support with your children's learning! and values as we definitely see them shine when they walk through the school gates!
Supporting the children are all of the dedicated teachers, teacher aides and support staff who work so hard to maintain a strong culture of learning and Macleans Values. There will be a bit for a break for us all, but there will also be a fair bit of work too as the planning for Term 3 and teacher's professional development will continue over the break.
The Mahi Tahi amongst all teachers, parents, and students was so prominent in term 2, from the learning to sport, from the value-athon to cultural activities and from excursions to the arts. I can't wait for the second half of the year where all of us within the home-school partnership will continue to shine for sure!
There could 1 or 2 notices and updates from me and other teachers over the break so please remember to check your emails, seesaw, website and the MPS FB page for updates and notices.
We had a number of curricula and extra-curricula activities happen over the last couple of weeks of term that will feature in the first newsletter of Term 3 (hockey, Edpro8, Enviro. updates, Kapa Haka festival, & dance festival).
Please enjoy this newsletter jam-packed full of great photos, notices and updates and have a great, relaxing, fun and enjoyable break.
Regards & Nga Mihi

Farwell Keryn Churches
After 10 years at Macleans Primary, Keryn Churches will be moving to teach at St. Thomas' School in Kohimarama. Keryn's oldest son has recently begun school at St. Thomas', and as she lives a 5 minute walk from the school, a perfect fit has come into fruition. Keryn began her teaching career at MPS and has spent most of her time teaching in the year 5 and year 6 team. Keryn has also been instrumental in developing and leading the sport and PE programme over the years. We will miss Keryn and wish her all the best!

Drowning Prevention Programme
Drowning Prevention Auckland has just released a series of water safety programmes for the July school holidays that will run at pools around Auckland. The Splash Holiday programme is a fun and safe opportunity for children aged 8-15 to improve their water safety competence and knowledge, while enhancing their swimming ability. Places are limited to 25 per day and cost $30 per child. Splash is now in its 10th year, and our experienced instructors provide a friendly and inclusive environment where confidence is built, and kids are encouraged to give new aquatic activities a go! Activities include lifejacket safety, snorkelling, bystander rescue, beach safety with safer boating and Manu safety (bombing) on offer for the older age group sessions.
Further information and registration is available on our website. Enrol your children in the correct session based on age group (8-10, 11-15) and select the location and date that suits. www.dpanz.org.nz/community/holiday-programmes
