Dear SHMS Families:
I hope that our students had a little fun this week as we ended this calendar year. There was a festive vibe in our building throughout the entire week. Many students and staff took part in the Twas The Week Before Break Spirit Week. Pajamas, winter hats, and crazy socks were on display during the week. In addition, each grade took part in a special activity. Before the school year started, eighth-grade teachers were investigating the possibility of taking our students to see the Broadway musical, Hamilton. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, that was not possible this year. On Tuesday, our eighth-grade teachers planned a “Hamilton Day” bringing the musical to our students. Eighth graders watched a documentary on the making of Hamilton, played a few games, and ended the day by watching the musical. Today, the seventh grade took part in WOOTBAM (Winter Olympics of the Body and Mind). Students were assigned to one of four teams-Providence, Copples, Rose Valley, and Brookhaven. As students progressed through their day, they participated in activities that tested their minds and bodies. The sixth grade ended their year by viewing the movie Wonder and completing activities that promoted kindness. I hope all students enjoyed the week.
An email was sent to SHMS families in an effort to get volunteers to participate in an administrator-facilitated focus group as part of the WSSD Equity Audit. This focus group will take place on Thursday, January 13th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Please respond to the participation form if you are interested.
I would like to wish all families a happy and healthy holiday season. I hope our students and staff enjoy a much- needed break. We will see everyone in the new year.
