Albion Elementary Family Newsletter

February 2017

Happy February, Everyone!

January weather was very kind to our school calendar this year. I am grateful for the amount of time that we have had with our students here at school. Coming to school every day and consistently on time is very helpful for the learning process. We have a very busy school calendar in the coming months (see details below) that will lead us into the spring. I hope to see everyone at our family event on March 2. Please stay in contact with your student's teacher if you have any questions or concerns. As always, feel free to contact me as well. Have a nice February, everyone!

Sincerely,

Jeff Harper, Principal

Spelling Bee

We are proud of our school spelling bee winner and runner up. Morgan Meroney, pictured above left, was our runner up for the Albion Elementary Spelling Bee. On the right is our champion, Sarah Pilnock. Sarah advanced to the county bee and represented Albion Elementary. Way to go, Sarah! We are proud of your effort and bravery to get up there and give it your best.

iPads At Home

Thank you all for your patience and willingness to work things out with our recent iPad-to- home deployment process. Be sure to contact the school with either a note or a phone call if you are having any problems with iPad usage in your home. Our Go Math curriculum online content website called Think Central has been having a lot of problems. I have been in contact with the company attempting to resolve our student account issues. Teachers are working with students to be sure that assignments are given in a way for all to complete regardless of internet availability at home. If you have any questions or concerns we really do appreciate a phone call or a note so that we can address them.

Upcoming ISTEP Testing for Grades 3, 4, and 5

ISTEP testing begins at Albion Elementary on Tuesday, February 28 and will finish up on Friday, March 3. The time between these dates is known as the "testing window". ISTEP tests are only conducted in grades 3, 4, and 5. Students being tested are not taking a test on each day of the testing window. It is very important that students arrive at school prepared for testing. This means that a good night's sleep, breakfast, and feeling well enough to come to school if there has been a recent illness are all important. If you have any questions about particular tests or testing dates, please contact your child's classroom teacher.

Final PTO Family Fun Event for 2016-2017

Our PTO has a new event in the works for a night of family fun. The event will take place on Thursday, March 2 (Dr. Seuss's birthday) in the gym and cafeteria. The event will last from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. We will have a meal available for purchase and six bounce houses in the gym for a $2 unlimited jump fee per child. Please plan to attend this fun family event. Our other two events were a major success and we are hoping that this one is just as enjoyable! We are always looking to add fresh faces and ideas to our PTO. Check out the important dates below for our next PTO meeting time.
