Mattingly's Mustang Message
January 24, 2018
Please, Please, Pleeeeeaaassseeee....
Please Remember:
- Wait - wait safely for others to proceed (buses, cars & people too) before you drive forward
- Stay in line - stay in your car and in line even if the person in front of you is moving slow or you're feeling impatient
- Stay in your car - if you haven't taught your child to buckle their own car seat, please pick up your child and then pull into a parking spot to buckle their seat
- Limit Conversation - please use phone or email if you need to talk to a staff member so our car lines can keep moving - we will work on getting better at this too!
- Be courteous - take turns pulling into school - don't cut people off - everyone has the same goal and we have a collective responsibility to stay safe
- Have positive intent - if you see a parent pull into a parking space at dismissal and walk to get their child from inside the building, assume they have an approved reason for doing so
- Synergize - WE MUST WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE THIS PROCESS WORK! :)
Our staff has the responsibility of helping 420 students arrive and dismiss safely from this building within a small amount of time. We greatly appreciate your support and thank you for helping us maintain a safe environment.
It is our responsibility to keep kids safe and it is your responsibility to stay safe.
Thank you!

Proposition R-P to be Voted on April 3
District to ask voters to consider net levy increase of 45 cents
The Ray-Pec School Board on Jan. 18 unanimously approved placing a 75-cent operating levy increase on the ballot for the April 3 election. At the same time, the debt service tax rate is scheduled to decrease by 30 cents, resulting in a net tax rate increase of 45 cents.
If approved, the additional revenue would be used to support key elements in the recently approved Strategic Plan. These include:
- Incorporating additional real-world, hands-on learning opportunities and promoting soft-skill development
- Expanding Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) opportunities for all students
- Expanding mental health supports for students and staff
- Reducing gaps in achievement through additional interventions and supports
- Establishing a market-competitive salary and benefit plan
- Ensuring appropriate class sizes and caseloads
- Supporting ongoing pursuit of job-related training and advanced degrees
- Investing additional resources in facility maintenance and upkeep
The last voter-approved tax rate increase for Ray-Pec was in 2003. Read more: Proposition R-P

Girls On The Run is So Much Fun!
GOTR is an after school program that combines teaching girls to recognize their inner strength and uniqueness with running!
The program is 10 weeks in length and meets twice a week after school. The program culminates with a 5K and all the other GOTR participants in the KC Metro.
More information will be coming home this week and next week and registration starts February 3. There is a fee to participate, and GOTR does offer scholarships, payment plans, and other options if your family would be interested.
Mrs. Petersen is super excited to offer this program to our Mustangs!
Box Tops for Education
Itchy Head? Know the facts.
You can help deter the spread of lice by checking your child for signs of head lice or nits. Nits, or lice eggs, may be brown, light grey or white and are oval-shaped. They resemble dandruff or sesame seeds, but cannot be flicked or shaken off the hair strand easily. Remind your child not to borrow or loan hats, combs, brushes, headphones, or other personal items.
If head lice or nits are found, your child should be treated with a lice product available over the counter at any drugstore. Follow the product directions exactly. After the treatment, it is important to remove all nits. This can be done with a special lice comb, scissors or your fingernails. Your child may return to school when he or she is lice and nit free.
There are many misconceptions about head lice. Learn the facts at: https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/lice/head/gen_info/faqs.html
