START-UP WEEK HIGHLIGHTS
MR. HIERCK'S SEVEN KEYS TO CULTURE
To ensure we provide the best learning environment for our students, Mr. Hierck identifies Seven Keys to creating a positive culture school-wide:
- Common expectations
- Targeted instruction
- Positive reinforcement (5 positives for every 1 negative)
- Support strategies & interventions
- Collaborative teams
- Data-driven dialogue
- School-wide systems that ensure the other 7 keys occur consistently
It is important for all of us, no matter what our role is in the district, to ensure that we are committed to these seven keys and to making connections that count with our students, staff, families and East Valley Community.

PLC PROUD
As we continue to strive for excellence, we need to be more intentional than ever that we are communicating common expectations and providing targeted instruction that is based on the data-driven dialogue occurring in our PLCs. You've got this East Valley - Keep up the great work!
SAFETY MINDSET
Encourage a safety mindset by:
- Keeping doors locked at all times.
- If you see or hear something that doesn't seem right, Say something!
- If a student tells you something that you think could threaten our schools or students, say something!
- Keep your bats close and be ready to swing!
- Remember that the worst thing you can do in an emergency/active shooter situation, is nothing!
USING POLL EVERYWHERE IN YOUR CLASSROOM
Poll Everywhere is a FREE TOOL for educators that can be accessed from a desktop computer or cellular device. While we were only able to demonstrate a few of the great uses, the possibilities are much more extensive.
Here are a few things you can use Poll Everywhere to do:
- Create team competitions
- Create growing streams of responses (which can be moderated) like those in our presentation
- Create code-names for students that allow them to participate in class discussions in a low-risk learning environment
- Create custom, quick, formative assessments with images, graphs & more
- Easily export data
P.s. For all of our Google loving employees - Poll Everywhere easily integrates into many Google Apps!!
SOCIAL MEDIA ROLL-CALL
TRANSITIONING TO SEBB - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO MAKE THE SHIFT
The Washington State Health Care Authority is sponsoring a SEBB Program Benefits Fair to help employees learn about providers and to help answer questions.
When: Monday, September 30th from 4-8:00PM
Where: Howard Johnson - Yakima Orchard Room (9 N. 9th Street, Yakima, WA 98901)
In order to help ease this benefit transition, our East Valley School District HR and Payroll personnel are hosting Enrollment Lab Nights. Our focus will be to help support employees to establish their SEBB Accounts, assist with dependent verifications & answer enrollment questions. Attendance is optional and those who are interested should only attend one of the two nights.
Dates: October 16th & November 12th
Time: 4-6:00PM
Where: East Valley Elementary Computer Lab
For more information about SEBB default selections, helpful tips and the steps you need to take to prepare for this benefits transition, please reference these flyers which have been previously distributed to all employees.
MAKING CONNECTIONS THAT COUNT
DISTRICT FLU SHOT CLINIC
If you have Premera Blue Cross or Kaiser Permanente, your flu shot is covered at a 100% with no co-pay. However, in order for Rite Aid to bill your insurance company, you will need to bring in a copy of your insurance card (front and back) to the clinic.
