Connections
Welcome to Connections - Issue 3 - w/c 26 September 2022
Viewpoint
We hope your son/daughter enjoyed Fresher's Day on Friday last week. Unfortunately the rain meant we had to move all the events inside, but the students appeared to be having a great time! The day is aimed at teambuilding and gives students the chance to take part in a range of activities and to meet learners on other full-time courses. Teams competed against each other, with the winning team getting voucher for golf on the driving range and a meal at Nineteen!
Also on Friday our first Student Reps meeting took place. Each course group has a Student Representative who provides the opportunity for the views of students from across the college to be heard. We'll share more information on what our Student Reps are up to as we go through the academic year.
All students have the opportunity to share their views about their course and the College experience at set points during the year - this is via Student Voice, a Google form, which is emailed out to them and accessed via a QR code. A link to the first survey Student Voice Induction 2022 was shared with students last week. Please encourage your son/daughter to complete this as we value their feedback.
Finally, we are holding a talk for parents and carers about Safeguarding at the College on Monday 17 October. We would encourage you to attend if at all possible - details are below.
Best wishes.

Safeguarding at TGI College - Monday 17 October 2022 at 6pm
Jeff Stuart, our Director of Student Support, would like to invite you to come and hear about how TGI College safeguards students, staff and visitors and promotes a culture of safety within the organisation on Monday 17 October 2022 at 6pm in the Theatre at the Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts
In addition, there will be an overview of how Student Support operates to provide for the needs of students in order for them to unlock their full potential and achieve their goals.
Following a presentation there will be an opportunity to ask questions and meet with members of the Student Support team.
The session will last around an hour.
Cooking healthy meals as part of Enrichmnent
As part of the Enrichment programme, our second year Sport Students have been cooking. They have worked as a team to select three healthy meals and are developing their skills in healthy cooking over three Enrichment slots. Yesterday was fish pie which tasted amazing! They even put a portion aside for Lecturers Tom and Michelle to take home!
Competition to design the 104th Poppy for the Poppy Bus
This year will mark 104 years since Armistice Day. The Poppy Bus was decorated for the centenary and a new poppy is added each year, with students from the College having been invited by CT Plus to design a poppy for this year for the Poppy Bus.
The winning design will be printed and fitted to the Poppy Bus, with the winner and two runners up each receiving a family Puffinpass and an Explore Guernsey by Bus mug. Where possible, competition entries will also be displayed at the Town Terminus Shop.
The closing date for entries is 20 October 2022. All entries must include a completed entry and publicity consent competition form, completed by the student or by a parent/carer for those under the age of 18.
Notes: Entries must be on paper and no bigger in size than A4. It is important that the entry form and the entry are stapled together – this can always be done at the shop when the entry is handed in. Please do not write the name of the student on the competition picture or the reverse of the picture as entries may be displayed in the Town Terminus Shop.
ProPortal and reports available to parents/carers
ProPortal is a student record system that allows parents and carers to view live information about their son or daughter, and is the main way we keep you updated on your son/daughter’s academic progress and attendance. It is a very useful tool, and access is available via our website on www.guernseycollege.ac.gg, click on >>College Links from the drop down menus along the top and then >>ProPortal, which will bring you to a log in screen.
Please click HERE to access ProPortal login page and get started. You will need your son/daughter's student reference number (these are printed on a student's ID card). The first picture below shows the sign in screen, with instructions on how to start the process of registering. If new to ProPortal, you will need to click on >>Submit An Account Request; if you have already signed up but need a reminder of your Password, you should click on >>Forgot your password?
We ask you to sign up to ProPortal at the start of term so you can stay up-to-date with your son/daughter’s progress. You will be able to view their
• Lesson Timetable
• Attendance and punctuality
• SMART targets
Once you have had confirmation that your request has been accepted, you can then
log in to your ProPortal account (following the further instructions in the first image below) and view your son/daughter’s lesson timetable and details of their attendance by clicking on the Information drop-down menu at the top right hand side of the screen (see the second image below). Your son or daughter's attendance and punctuality and SMART targets can be accessed by clicking on the student ILP drop-down next to this (see the third image below).
If you have any questions, are having any problems accessing ProPortal or creating an account, require any of your details to be changed, or if you would like to be removed from our systems/records, please email college@gcfe.net
