CRES FEST DONATIONS!
There is an exciting reason that donations are due so soon, the PTO is using a mobile device app/service so that all bids can be done on your phone or on an iPad. There are many advantages to this (alerts when you've been outbid, if you are busy on the night of CRES fest but want to contribute you can bid remotely, and quick check out at the end of the night when your kids are tired!) The PTO needs to be able to enter our donations into the mobile service so they would like the donations a little earlier.
Please consider donating to our classroom basket and supporting CRES, our PTO, and your students. Thanks for all you do!
ISTEP Pilot
Cumberland Road third graders have been selected to take a digital applied skills pilot. The purpose of the pilot is to test new question sets for future tests. The test will be similar to the applied skills tests they took a few weeks back with essay type questions. These tests are just used for testing the validity of the questions for future tests and will not be factored into the ISTEP test scores our students just took. Our class will do this pilot test on Monday afternoon only.

Workshops
Writer's and Reader's Workshop: Students are choosing the biographies of people they are curious about. It's been wonderful hear them share with their classmates about what they are learning.
Math Workshop: We began our geometry unit. We kicked it off with a visit to the playground to try to find and sketch as many shapes as we could find.
Science: We are part of the Amaryllis Challenge! The students chose to name our bulb "Twilight" and we watered it today and we began to make some predictions about what we think will happen. Monday we will plant our lima beans.

Snacks and Lunch
Snack: Students will be allowed to bring a snack in the morning since our lunch time is later in the day. Snacks need to be healthy and nutritious. Please refrain from bringing items with tree nuts due to allergies. Students can also bring a bottle of water to school each day.
Lunch: We will eat lunch each day from 1:05-1:35 in the cafeteria. Your child may eat school lunch or bring his or her lunch from home. Lunch options this year are hot lunch, turkey sandwich, peanut butter & jelly, chef salad, or pizza pack.
