Principal's Report

Oakview Parents,

As February closes out, the busy spring season is fast approaching. Please continue checking Oakview’s school calendar and teachers weekly newsletters to stay up to date. There are so many amazing opportunities for our students to grow and learn and you won’t want to miss them! This edition of the ACORN highlights some of those opportunities so please keep reading!

Fitness Trail Update

In January, I announced Oakview’s receipt of a $6,000 grant which will serve as seed money to begin transforming our existing nature trail into a national demonstration site “fitness trail.” Our progress continues on this exciting project! Greenville County Schools grounds crew has been busy removing fallen or dead trees and have been clearing underbrush throughout parts of the trail. Very soon, a walking surface will be installed to provide easy access for students and teachers. The next step will be the installation of the individual fitness stations.

The fitness stations will be the most costly component of this project and the centerpiece of the trail. To support this effort, Oakview is pursuing other grant and award monies to pay for the various stations. If you or your company/business would like to join us in our effort to install a fitness station(s), please click here to contact Jen Miller, P.E. teacher. As always, we appreciate your active engagement and support of Oakview and its programs!

For children,

Phillip Reavis, Ph.D

1st Spring Garden Saturday!

Our first Garden Saturday is Saturday, March 2 from 9-11 am. We will clean out our garden beds in the vegetable garden, adding new soil, fixing watering tubing, staining the fence, adding seeds, and digging holes and planting potted flowers. If there's time left, we will get started pruning and weeding in the butterfly garden. It's a busy, but exciting time as we get our gardens ready for beautiful flowers again! Contact our STEM lab teacher, Charnley Demeritt, for more information.

STEM Breakout Night & Science Fair Projects

Our first ever STEM Breakout Night is almost here! On Thursday, March 7th from 4:45-6:45, families will try to 'breakout' of Oakview by solving Science, Math, and Engineering problems depending on the age of your child(ren)! Each hallway will have activities or challenges to solve which will then give the families clues to the final breakout puzzle. After collecting the puzzle pieces, families will go to the Media Center or Art Room to solve the final puzzle, stop the timer, and BREAKOUT of Oakview! We will also have Estimation jars, 3D printing demonstrations, and STEM business presentations set up for more fun!

Please RSVP by Tuesday, March 5th so we can have enough Breakout materials prepared for everyone! Click HERE to access the form.

We will also have science fair projects from our hard-working students on display in the gym from 4:45 to 6:15! The Science Fair awards ceremony will begin at 6:45 in the cafeteria.

Please join us for our STEM Breakout Night and to see our amazing science fair projects!

IMPORTANT--Your Lowe's Foods Card needs to be relinked!
