Counselor Connection
Welcome Back! September 2021
Mindset of the Month:
Welcome!
We are so glad that our new and returning students have chosen to school with OVCA this year! Our counseling team is working hard on academic advising and course placement for the first few weeks of the school year, so please take a few minutes to watch the introductory video from Jenn Preston, one of the OVCA High School Counselors.
Mrs. Preston made this video specifically for her students, but the information is relevant for all students. Be sure to reach out to your assigned counselor if you have further questions. (Mrs. Preston isn't everyone's counselor, but she is the best at making videos!) All Counselor contact info is at the end of this newsletter. We look forward to serving you and your family this year!
Get to know the GRAD PLAN
The Grad Plan is like a schedule and a transcript all in one.
For new students: Once your academic records integrate into the system, the Grad Plan will show all of the credits a student has already earned, all courses that are in progress, and all courses left to meet graduation requirements. Your plan probably isn't complete yet, but check it now under the quick links tab of your student account to get an idea of how it works and then check back for updates!
BISON MINDSET MINUTE WILL START AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER!
Join us live every Wednesday @11:30am for the Bison Mindset Minute. Hosted by your OVCA HS Counselors. Link will appear in CC schedules.
What exactly is BMM and the 7 Mindsets?
The 7 Mindsets are designed to promote self-awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.
"Happiness and success is not a destination, instead it is a journey; and it can only be defined by the individual. The 7 Mindsets are the result of a 3 year study designed to uncover how many people found happiness, success, meaning, and purpose in life. The research found that happiness and success is not predicated on what we know or where we come from, it is predicated on how we think." -Source: 7mindsets.com
Each month we will focus on 1 of the 7 Mindsets. The Mindset for the month of September is: We Are Connected.
Frequently Asked Question: Where is my ACT score??
A: You can access your scores by logging in to your ACT student account here: Sign In | MyACT
If you do not have an account, you will need to create one.
Once you are logged in, if you cannot see your score from April 2021 automatically, then you will need to email testing@okvirtual.org for your ACT ID.
**The National ACT is separate from the State ACT that is administered during the 11th grade year as a part of State Testing. All 11th grade students in the State of Oklahoma are required to take the ACT in the Spring as part of State Testing. State Testing is a graduation requirement. Students will complete the registration for the State ACT through OVCA. More information about State Testing will be sent out in the Spring.
TIPS FOR REGISTERING FOR THE ACT
It’s important to register for the ACT as soon as possible so you have a reserved spot. If the test is cancelled, you will have access to the latest information from the ACT and might be able to reschedule your test more quickly. Here are some tips for registering for the ACT.
- Register online. Registering online at the ACT website is the fastest and easiest way to register. From your online account, you can print your admission ticket, make changes to your registration, and view your scores as soon as they are available.
- Submit a photo. You must submit a photo of yourself no later than one week before the day of the test. You may upload photos from your computer, from a mobile device, or send a paper copy by mail. The complete photo submission guidelines are on ACT website.
- Find out if you need to take the Writing Test. Some colleges require scores from the optional Writing Test. You can register for this test along with the ACT. It is offered on the same dates as the ACT test.
- Pay your fees or apply for a fee waiver. The registration fee for the ACT is $55 without writing and $70 with writing. The fee includes reports for you, your high school, and up to four colleges. There is a fee of $13 for each report sent to additional colleges. Visit the ACT website for a complete list of fees, as well as more information about registration, fee waivers, and the test itself.
*Students should contact their school counselor for ACT fee waiver.
