September 2017

Welcome Back!

We are so glad to have our Rockets back at school! We have had a great week back. Teachers and students are happy to be back in the routine of school. I am loving all the smiles as the students come through the door in the morning.

Thank you for all the food donations to help our Rocket families in need. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. We would like to continue this through the end of the month. We are still in need of the following items:

Pasta sauce (plastic jar)

Peanut butter

Snack crackers

Kroger/HEB gift cards

Please let us know if we can help your family out in this difficult time. You can reach out to our counselor, Mrs. Murray( or 281-284-5900). CCISD Cares at McWhirter Elementary will continue to be open until the end of September.

The district is providing free breakfast and lunch to students until Sept. 29th. Snacks and extras will be charged to student accounts.

Hurricane Harvey was strong but our NPE family is stronger!

Please take note:

Our car line is beginning to move a lot faster! Please make sure you have your yellow car tag every day!!! Students should only exit on the passenger side of a car. Do not park and get out of your car in the car line. This slows down the flow. You can park in the parking lot and take care of your child then walk him across the cross walk. Please remember that cell phone use is prohibited in the car line.

If you must make a change in transportation, you must do so by sending a note to your child's teacher. We cannot go on a child's word only. Thank you for helping with this.

Please make sure your child is on time to school everyday! Learning begins at 8:15 and does not end until 3:05. Tardies and early checkouts can cause your child to miss important information.

GT Testing

The Gifted & Talented Program is designed for students who demonstrate significantly above-average achievement or potential in the areas of general intellectual ability, specific subject matter aptitude, and creative/productive thinking skills. Criteria for selection include cognitive skill tests, professional recommendations, classroom performance and portfolio samples. Students may be referred twice for testing while in elementary school!

Parents may refer students for testing. The deadline for students in grades 1 – 12 is October 1, 2017. The deadline for accepting referrals for students in kindergarten is December 1, 2017. If you are interested in having your child tested this year, please email at After the referral deadline has passed, I will send home an envelope with some forms that need to be completed and returned. I will not be able to pull your child for testing until I receive them.
