FRIDAY, MARCH 24TH - MARCH MADNESS COLLEGE JERSEY DAY!
Erin's Law Presentations
In the coming weeks, our Ivy Hill School Social Workers will work with each grade level to provide age appropriate information. Age appropriate research-based instruction helps students recognize unsafe situations, keep themselves safe, and understand how to respond to unsafe situations.
More information about Erin’s Law can be found on the District’s website including the optional opt-out form.
Parents have the right to opt their child out of participating in the annual Erin’s Law presentation by completing a new form each year and submitting it to their Building Principal.
These need to be returned to your child's teacher no later than the day before the talk. I would also encourage you to email the teacher as well that you are sending the opt-out form just in case it gets lost.
Below is the schedule for each grade level. If you have any questions, please let me know.
March 16th - PM Kindergarten
March 20th - 3rd grade
March 23rd - 5th grade
March 24th - 4th grade
April 4th - 2nd grade
Thanks,
Scott

Election Day - April 4th
On Election Day, Tuesday, April 4, 2023 Ivy Hill Elementary school will be used as a polling place all day. We have the following procedures in place to ensure the safety of our students and staff:
The polling place for our school is our gym
Voters will only be allowed to enter door #5 (CAP Entrance)
Any door connecting our gym to our school building will be locked
We will hire a full time building attendant to sit in the area that connects the gym to the building.
A District Administrator will be on site that day.
Students scheduled for P.E. that day will have their P.E. class in the Commons
All grades will have indoor recess.
We take the safety and security of our students and staff very seriously. And while these procedures will cause some disruption to our typical day, we are confident that students will continue to have a safe and engaging day of learning.
If you have questions, please contact me at skaese@sd25.org.
Thanks!
Scott

"FAMILY FUN RUN FRIDAYS"
Running Club is back for spring -- in a new format!
Tie your laces, parents, and join us at 5 pm on Friday afternoons in April for a family neighborhood loop! All ages are welcome. We will meet on the blacktop at Ivy, weather permitting, and families can run at their own pace through a neighborhood loop.
Do you have tiny kindergartners with short legs? Just run the field or a short loop around the school! Are you bringing 5th graders who want to do cross country at Thomas? Challenge your neighbors to a long-distance race through the neighborhood! You set the pace, you set the distance! All abilities are welcome!
Families are encouraged to represent Ivy Hill at the District 25 Family Foundation GetBurbed race on Saturday, April 15th! 1 mile and 5k options available. Plus, cheer for our own Ivy Eagle in the mascot race!! If interested, please register at https://abc25challenge.org/registration/ You do NOT need to participate in this race to join the Running Club! Totally optional. (But very fun!)
Please note: This is NOT a drop-off event. There is no adult supervision for unattended children. You are responsible for your children’s safety. If your children run at different paces, you might even want to bring TWO adults! Be sure to bring lots of water, and dress for the weather! Get ready to have a lot of fresh air and FUN!

RULER Lessons
Our SEL program, RULER, teaches students how to regulate emotions- even in the hardest of times. One important tool we teach is called the Meta-Moment.
What is the Meta-Moment?
Most of us have had the experience of “losing our cool” and regretting it later. For example, your daughter is whining, the milk spills, and you’re late for work. You raise your voice at her and she dissolves into tears. Later, you wish you had handled the situation differently. Even in the most trying moments, our behavior does not have to be automatic and reactive. The Meta-Moment is a process that allows us to prolong the time from when we are triggered to when we respond. And, taking Meta-Moments keeps us aligned with our values over time. With practice, our responses can be more deliberate and skillful. Even when our emotions are really “hot,” we can take a Meta-Moment, pause, call to mind our ‘best self’ and choose a helpful strategy. Practicing Meta-Moments over time requires intentionality and effort…and, it’s worth the extra effort to feel proud of the actions we choose even in the most challenging moments.

5th GRADE FUN!
There are lots of fun events coming up for our 5th grade students as we enter into their final stretch here at Ivy Hill! Check this spot each week and we'll keep you up to date on all their activities!
THE 5TH GRADE SLIDESHOW will be played at the end of the 5th grade musical show. The slide show committee is looking for photos (individual and group) from Kindergarten to 5th grade taken during any school event. Please send the photos separated by grade and labeled appropriately. You can include multiple years in one email, but each grade needs to be in its own folder and clearly labeled. Alternatively, you can send separate emails for each grade, with the subject line indicating the grade.
Additionally, the committee would like a baby picture of each child in the 5th grade.
Please send your photos to: ivyhillclassof2023@gmail.com. The deadline is 5/1/23.

BREAKFAST & LUNCH QUESTIONS
Ivy Hill is lucky to have Mrs. Khan and Mrs. Moncada back this year to serve breakfast and lunch to all of our students!
Breakfast will be served at 8:45 each morning - the cost is $1.75. If your child rides the bus, have them come directly to the commons when they arrive at school.
Lunch schedules change each week - beginning on Monday, 8/29, we will be on Schedule B. Click here for the menu. The cost for lunch is $3.25.
The easiest way to pay for breakfast and lunch to set up an account at MyMealTime.com. Call the office for your child's student ID number. You can also send cash. Please put the cash in an envelope with your child's name on it.
Download the Choosi app to help manage your child's account.
We’d love to hear from you!
