District Goal: WE empower all students to achieve post-high school success.
School Psychology Awareness Week - Nov. 13-17
November 13-17 is National School Psychology Awareness Week. The theme is Power Up! Be a Positive Change. The goal of the week is to highlight how taking a small positive action creates connections that lead to positive change.
In the Beaverton School District, there are 24 full-time and 17 part-time school psychologists who support the growth and development of our students. They combine their expertise in mental health, learning and behavior to help children succeed academically, socially, behaviorally and emotionally. Our school psychologists collaborate with families, teachers, school administrators and other professionals to create safe, healthy and supportive learning environments.
Thank you to all of our dedicated school psychologists!
Project Lead the Way CEO visits Health & Science School
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Vince Bertram, took a student-led tour of the Health and Science School (HS2) on Thursday, November 9, 2017.
Dr. Bertram visited classrooms and engaged in interactive discussions with students about the importance of Career & Technical Education.
Health and Science School is a nationally certified Project Lead the Way School in their Biomedical and Engineering programs. Because of this certification, HS2 offers students the ability to earn dual credit through the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT), as well as participate in internships and other hands-on experiences.
PLTW provides transformative learning experiences for K-12 students and teachers across the U.S. They create an engaging, hands-on classroom environment and empower students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills they need to thrive. They also provide teachers with the training, resources, and support they need to engage students in real-world learning.
Early Release in Action: Intervention at Conestoga Middle School
An inter-departmental group of teachers, specialists, counselors and administrators at Conestoga Middle School have joined together to create an Intervention Professional Learning Team to collect and analyze data and develop strategies to encourage all Conestoga students to be successful in middle school. The team meets every fourth Wednesday during Early Release.
The group chose first to focus on school climate and social-emotional health. They generated a school-wide survey for students with questions like: “Do you feel that there is at least one adult that you can trust and talk to if you need help?” “Have you or do you plan to participate in any clubs or activities with other Conestoga students (i.e. sports, drama, Lego robotics, anime, GSA, band, choir, tech team, AVID)?” and “Do you feel that you have at least one friend that you can trust here at Conestoga?”
The team met on October 25 to begin the analysis of the data received from the survey. This meeting focused on the graphical data, which showed that the majority of students feel they have friends, students treat other students fairly, and they have at least one adult who they can trust. There is still work to do. Following the review of the open-ended comments the team will develop interventions and programs that will ensure all students feel connected and part of the Conestoga community.
Principal Zan Hess supports the group and is very interested in the survey results, stating, “If you don’t know how kids are feeling, you can’t meet them where they are at.”

Inclement Weather Information
When the weather gets snowy or icy, school schedules may be affected. The District generally posts the announcement of delayed school opening or school closure by 5:15 a.m. All Portland Metro area media outlets announce the information on TV newscasts and online.
The District makes decisions based on the ability to operate school buses safely; the ability for students and parents to get to school safely, and the ability of employees to get to work safely and on time. The decision that is made will be for the entire District. As always, parents may choose to make different decisions based on their particular location.
The District will notify parents via SchoolMessenger with a Non-School Hours Emergency message. Please manage your communication preferences in SchoolMessenger InfoCenter.
