* Japanese people believed in the Buddhism and Shinto religion.

* Followers of Zen Buddhism practiced meditation. It helped them relax and find inner peace.

* Artisans made wooden statues, furniture, and household items and used lacquer on them.

* The Japanese people did landscape painting using ink or water colors. They painted scenes of nature or battles on paper scrolls or on silk.

* The Japanese people invented origami.
