Hello, Families!
We had a wonderful week in second grade!
During the guided reading section of our day this past week, students have been taking the STAR reading test with me in a small-group format. I look forward to sharing these results with you at conferences. Additionally, we will be completing the STAR math test in the same format next week. I will also be assessing your child's fluency next week.
As always (and I can't overstate this enough), PLEASE let me know if you have any questions about your child's progress, or about anything school related in general. My hope is you'll ask if there is anything you're wondering.
Please ask your child:
Math:
- How did your math fluency test go?
- You began Unit 2! Tell me what you have learned about ones, tens, and hundreds.
- In the number 253, what place is the 5 in (tens)? What is the value of the 5 (50)? What about the 2? The 3?
- Show me two ways to make the number 253 with base ten blocks. Can you draw it for me?
Reading:
- What books are you currently reading?
- What are some ways you can make the long A sound (ai, ay)? How can you make the long E sound (ee, ea, ey)? How can you make the "OY" sound (oi, oy)?
Writing:
- You began your informational writing unit! What is your topic?
- Tell me the important parts of an informational writing piece (table of contents, subheadings, glossary).
- What have you learned about your topic through research?
Social Studies:
- What are goods and services? How do goods and services affect the community?
- What are some ways people spend money?
- What are some ways people earn money?
- Why do people work?
Other:
- What was the best part of your week?
- Is there anything you would like to be different next week? What can you do to make that happen?
Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me. Have a lovely weekend!
