Information For New Families and/or Families Returning To Us From Remote Learning
Welcome to Compass for Second Semester! We are so glad to have you and your family alongside our Compass Family!
We want to share a few logistical things to help in the transition:
For our new families; you can click on this link for a virtual tour of our building that was originally shared at the beginning of the year. If you view it in present mode, there is audio that goes along with it. Hopefully, this virtual tour will give you a sense of our building layout and staff as you and your student(s) prepare for joining us on Monday.
Monday Morning Arrival Information:
If you have a student who is new to Compass or is returning and is not exactly sure where their room is, we will have lots of staff members as well as Fourth and Fifth Grade Student Ambassadors at the bus entrance and both car rider entrances to help escort students who might need help. Please tell your student to look for an adult and ask for help. That's what we are here for and our Student Ambassadors will be excited to get the chance to help!
Parent Opt-In Link to Request Technology
All new students (including former Remote Learners, will need to have their parents fill out the Opt-In Form--Parent Request for Technology during Virtual Learning --in the event that we have a Remote Learning day. Remote students that are returning to in-person must return the current Chromebook that has been used. In order to provide another Chromebook to your student in the event of a building or district wide AMI (Alternate Method of Instruction) day, we have to have a submitted request to serve as acknowledgement of technology that will be sent home with the student(s).
School supplies:
Please feel free to send any basic supplies with your student. Our supply lists are on the district website, but we are happy to help provide any supplies that may be needed outside of what is brought from home. If your student(s) is returning to us from remote learning, please return all district provided technology (chromebook, charger, etc) and teacher supplied classroom manipulatives (pattern blocks, counters, etc) to school on Monday. Students will turn those items into their classroom teacher and we will collect and document the return of these items.
Times to Remember:
8:15-Front Office opens
8:30-Students can enter the building
8:50-Official start time for the school day
3:35-Dismissal Processes Begin
3:50-Official End of School Day
4:15-Front Office closes
Medicine and Prescriptions
If your student has medicines that need to be taken at school or have emergency medicines that need to be kept at school, please call the front office (816-858-0172), and ask for our school nurse, Ms. Lisa Murphy. She will let you know what forms need to be filled out, and what steps need to be taken for transferring those meds directly from parents to the nurse. Please do not send medicine to school for your student to deliver to the nurse or keep in their bag.
Water Bottles:
As part of our reopening plan we are asking students to bring water bottles with their names on them. We will not be able to use water fountains as in the past. We have currently added water bottle fill stations to our water fountains for student use.
PTA Membership
Beginning of the semester is still a great time to get involved with PTA. Getting your PTA membership is easier than ever, send in the PTA membership form to the office at school with your student and pay with a check or Venmo. To stay informed on all things Compass PTA find us on Facebook at Compass PTA or contact us at ptacompass@gmail.com. We have some great things planned for the second semester and look forward to meeting you! The link to our Compass PTA Facebook page can be found below at the bottom of the newsletter, or by clicking here.
Mask (PPE) Expectation
Please be sure to send your student to school with a mask each day, and try to rotate masks out to be cleaned between uses. They will need to be sure the mask covers their mouth and nose. If your student is in need of a mask, or in need of a second one, please let the front office know, and we will help to provide a mask in these instances. For more information on PPE please see our pandemic response plans for building and district linked below.
Lunch Rotations
As part of our building reopening procedures; our classes will alternate each day between eating lunch in the cafeteria, and eating lunch in their classroom. For more information, please see pages 11-12 of our building reopening plan linked below.
Arrival/Dismissal Process
Car Rider Dismissal Communication For Our New And Returning Families
We implemented a new process for car rider dismissal in the fall and have found that it has been going very well, and has allowed our families to quickly and efficiently pick up their student(s). As mentioned in September, we want to offer an equitable process throughout the year as a whole for the time that families can move through the dismissal line. We would like to begin this rotation on Monday, November 30th. Again, thank you for your support as you in this process, we sincerely appreciate it!
The following will be the schedule for Second Quarter: (December & January)
- Families with car rider tags 36-70 arrive at Compass no earlier than 3:35 pm.
- Families with car rider tags 71-105 arrive at Compass no earlier than 3:40 pm.
- Families with car rider tags numbered higher than 105 arrive at Compass no earlier than 3:45 pm.
- Families with car rider tags 1-35 arrive at Compass no earlier than 3:50 pm.
We will communicate the next rotation closer to the end of January for the months of February and March.
