A Message From the Principal
Dear Parents,
Parshat Bamidbar focuses on the census of B’nei Yisrael. When naming the descendants of Aharon, the Torah states, “These are the descendants of Moses and Aaron on the day that the Lord spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai. (Bamidbar 3:1).”
Rashi asks, why does the pasuk say the descendants of Moshe and Aharon but only lists the sons of Aharon? He notes that Aharon’s sons are considered Moshe’s descendants because Moshe taught them Torah. Rashi then quotes the Gemara in Sanhedrin (19b) and states that we can learn from here that whoever teaches Torah to the son of his fellow man, the Torah regards it as if he is his biological son. He proceeds to comment that they became Moshe’s descendants because Moshe taught them what he learned from God.
Hashem is teaching us a powerful message through this pasuk, namely, that a teacher who transmits Torah to a child assumes a degree of importance as if they are that child’s parent.
You entrusted your children to us this year, we taught them Torah and much more, and they became our children as well. Together with you, we have helped each of your children grow spiritually, socially, emotionally, and academically. We have encouraged them to take risks, supported them as they worked to meet their goals, and challenged them to grow at all times and in all ways. We have created a community at YLS that is an extension of your family at home. Along with you, we have loved your child, derived much nachas, and shared tremendous joy.
We will miss your children and you, their parents, this summer, and look forward to being together again soon. Please stay in touch!
Shabbat Shalom,
Mrs. Becky Troodler
