# Using MAP to Differentiate Content

## What score do students need to qualify as gifted on the MAP test?

To identify as gifted on the NWEA MAP test in reading or math, students must obtain a score of 95% or higher. Additionally, any student K-10 who had both a 94th percentile and a 90th percentile or higher on two of the last three MAP administrations will be offered a retest in that subject area. For example, if a student has reading scores of 91, 89, 94 over the last three tests, he will be offered a retest in reading.

## How will knowing the percentile and RIT score help the gifted students?

To reach the 95th percentile, students must be proficient with concepts that may not be taught in a student's assigned grade. It is important for teachers to be aware of concepts that will be assessed at the higher levels on the MAP test. By providing our high achieving students differentiated content they will have the opportunity to be successful and show growth on future MAP assessments.
