NEWS FROM DR. CHAUSSEE
Conferences:
February conferences are the 8th-10th and they are a great opportunity to meet face to face with your child’s teacher. One more reminder, parents schedule using Pick-A-Time and all are remote.
The following suggestions might make for a more productive conference:
You may want to ask your child’s teacher:
Does my child participate in classroom activities?
Does my child know the math facts?
Does she/he have self-control in the classroom?
How does my child get along with others?
Does my child read in his/her spare time?
How well does my child comprehend what she/he read?
How well does she/he write?
Does my child appear to be happy at school?
You may want to tell your child’s teacher:
Which school activities your child talks about at home.
If anything has happened lately at home that might affect your child at school.
What you see as some of your child’s strengths and weaknesses.
One conference per student, please. It is our hope that all parents can attend the conferences together and not request two time slots.
Valentine’s Day Parties
This is a repeat of information about next week’s parties:
The parties will be somewhat similar to the Halloween parties from October. The parties at school will be at 2:15 on February 9th. We are hoping we’ve found a compromise between what a Covid party could look like and what we’ve done in the past. The students will be able to bring a card and a piece of candy for each of their classmates. The PTO will provide a juice box and a snack. We will not allow baked goods such as donuts, cupcakes, delicious chocolate croissants, individual bags of treats etc. to be brought in from the outside. Students can bring a sack or a small box to collect their cards and candy. The students will not open them up at school but will bring home to possibly quarantine. We will not allow the children to pass out cards to other kids and adults in the building.
Other Reminders:
Drivers in front in the red fire lane should stay in or near their car. A blocked car disrupts the traffic.
If waiting for students in the parking lot que, please do not get out of your car. Parking stalls are available for longer waits.
Please send a water bottle to school with your child every day.
Please send your child to school with a mask and a spare one in their backpack.
Please help your child to remember their ipad, lunch, instrument, homework, etc.
NO SUCCESS CENTER
There will be no Success Center/After School Study Hall for 3/4/5 on Monday, February 8th, and Tuesday, February 9th, due to parent teacher conferences.
PTO NEEDS YOUR HELP!
The Grace Abbott PTO Hospitality Committee is in need of some additional donations for during Parent Teacher Conferences next week and Teacher Appreciation Week in March.
We would appreciate if you could review the signup genius and see if you can be of assistance.
Thank you!

I will be available to Zoom with families on February 4th and 9th from 4:00 - 8:00 and on February 10th from 8:00 - 4:00. If you would like to meet with me, please send me an email at bmstruck@mpsomaha.org or give me a call at Abbott, 402-715-2900, or Aldrich, 402-715-2020, and I’ll get you scheduled.
