Social Emotional Learning Theme: Skills for Learning/Skills for Life

During the month of May, we will continue our work with mindset as we learn to harness the power of Yet! To maintain a growth mindset, we will teach students to consider themselves “works in progress” which brings with it the confidence to admit there are skills we are not good at YET. This mindset helps students to embrace challenges they haven’t faced before, and helps to reframe thinking that leads to a fixed mindset such as “I’m not good at this” or “I can’t do this.” When students learn to insert the word “yet” at the end of these statements, it unlocks positive thinking and motivation that leads to positive change and growth.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At IMES, we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive school environment where children have a sense of belonging. In May, we are highlighting different cultures and holidays:

  • Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
  • Jewish American Heritage Month
  • Cinco de Mayo
  • Military Appreciation Month/Memorial Day

We would like to thank our school's DEI Compact Team who continue to create the wonderful bulletin board/exhibits to support inclusion.

Read alouds and morning meeting will continue to be opportunities for learning and discussion.

Optional Family Placement Input Information

We will soon begin the process of creating student groupings for class placement for the 2023-2024 school year. This is an extensive collaboration that includes the classroom teachers, service providers, specialists, administration, and parents. If you choose to participate, please click the link below to access the Optional Family Placement Form for your child.

The only accepted feedback regarding class placement can be through the survey which is equitable and in the best interest of all children. This optional online input form may be used to provide us with unique insights about your child, including strengths and needs. Additionally, if your family has twins, please indicate whether you want the children separated by class or placed together.

If you choose to provide input about your child, please know that we may not be able to honor requests for children to be placed with or separated from other students. Please refrain from making requests for preferred teachers and from making negative requests for specific teachers unless your family has direct previous experience, in which case, the request will be considered.

The online form must be submitted by Friday, May 12. The input form will no longer be available beyond this date. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
