YEARBOOK DEADLINE APPROACHING
PTA OFFICER POSITIONS OPEN FOR 2021-2022
- The FWS PTA is planning for the 2021-2022 school year with the Nominations Committee now accepting nominations/applications for PTA Elected Officers for the next school year.
- Candidates names should be submitted via email (vp@fsmspta.org) to the nominating committee for each office they wish to run for by Sunday, April 11, 2021.
- Elections will be held via an electronic vote on June 1, 2021.

SUMMER SCHOOL
- Farmwell Station Middle School will be hosting a summer skill recovery session in English and Math from June 28 to July 29. The program will be held at Trailside Middle School due to FWS being under construction this summer. Transportation will be provided. The program will meet Monday thru Thursday from 9am to 1pm. Tuition is free.
- Invitations to this program will be sent home via email in April. If you have further questions, please contact Kathleen.Pollock@lcps.org.

SYMPTOM CHECKER
- Please doublecheck that your student is filling out the symptom checker before they come to school.
- If your student is not feeling well, please keep them home. They are welcome to learn virtually from home until they feel better. Please email the Attendance Secretary at fwsattendance@lcps.org, the school nurse (Ashley.Kang@lcps.org), and your student's teachers if you decide to keep them home until they are feeling better.
BINGO NIGHT
- The FWS and River Bend MS Music Departments had a virtual BINGO night last Tuesday. Prizes were awarded including supplies like music stands, rosin, shoulder rests as well as school tshirts and sweatshirts! One lucky winner from each school won a 30 minute private lesson with a local music teacher. Thanks to our 74 strings students who came out for a night of fun!
COURSE/ELECTIVES FOR 2021-22
- Rising 7th & 8th Grade Parents - Your student's course/elective selections will be posted under the Documents tab in ParentVUE in early April. The deadline to make changes is April 23. Contact your student's counselor for any changes.
- Rising 9th Grade Parents - Broad Run High School will be in contact with you about your student's courses/electives for the 2021-22 school year.
STUDENT ORIENTATIONS
- We have scheduled the 6th and 7th grade student orientations for the 2021-22 school year. Unless otherwise stated, they will be held in-person at FWS.
- 7th Grade Student Orientation: August 20, 9:00-11:00am, only for students
- 6th Grade Student Orientation: August 20, 1:00-3:00pm, parents should meet in the auditorium for a presentation at 1:00pm
WHERE IS OREO?
- Students have unlocked 6 out of 10 clues so far. If every student reads 1 book over spring break and logs it on the “Where is Oreo?” site, they can solve the mystery of Oreo’s disappearance in no time!

BRHS - SPRING MULCH SALE
- Help support the Broad Run Athletic Booster Club and Spartan Athletes by ordering mulch this spring!
- Free delivery if you order 10 bags or more. Orders must be received by April 2.

- Our next Fun Friday is Formal Attire Day on April 9.

FWS MEAL SERVICE
- The school is closed next week for spring break. There is no meal service at FWS from March 29 to April 2. Meal pick up will resume at FWS on Monday, April 5.
REQUEST A LIBRARY BOOK
There will be no curbside pickup during spring break. Curbside pickup will resume the week of April 5.
Hybrid students can request library books to be delivered to their English classrooms on their in-person days.
Distance Learning Curbside Pick Up:
Mondays 7:30am to 4:00pm
Wednesdays 8:30am to 3:30pm
Thursdays 8:30am to 3:30pm
FWS LIBRARY BOOK CLUB UPDATE
- Our Virginia Reader’s Choice Book Club had their final meeting for the school year on March 22.
- We voted on our favorite of the 2020-2021 middle school Virginia Reader’s Choice nominees. For our book club members, the two books tied for the most votes were The Benefits of Being An Octopus by Ann Braden and The Bridge Home by Padma Venkatraman with Game Changer by Tommy Greenwald coming in a very close second place.
- Now we will send our votes on to the Virginia State Literacy Association to be considered towards choosing the winner of this year’s Virginia Reader’s Choice Award for middle school.
