Principal's Greeting
Dear parents,
There is much to be thankful for as we barrel into October! October is traditionally a month where we celebrate a month dedicated to the Holy Rosary - please see the St Patrick Parish update below for more information.
Of course, it is also the month where we celebrate and share our good fortune in the abundance of Thanksgiving. We also usually buy SLIGHTLY larger pants. Or maybe that's just me.... not sure. :-)
On the theme of sharing abundance - we would like to support our local St Vincent de Paul society at St Patrick Church, and have some fun at the same time. If your child could bring in a canned or boxed food item before Friday, we will collect them and donate them to a local food bank. In junior high, we will be running a classroom challenge where homerooms try to build a tower or structure with the items collected. If you wish, you may donate a loonie or toonie to the cause - this will go directly to gift cards for St Vincent de Paul.
Thanks for a great first month! Take care and stay safe.
Blessings, Mr. Gallant
October Parish News from St Patrick
(The entire Oct update from the parish is attached below as a thumbnail, and a full sized pdf)
Month of the Holy Rosary!
Traditionally the Church observes October as the month of the Holy Rosary. The Rosary is a beautiful, wonderful, contemplative prayer which provides opportunities for offering up prayers for multiple intentions. Take some time this month and help your children pray!
On October 2nd, we celebrate the Feast of the Guardian Angels! We have each been appointed a Guardian Angel from God to look after us and protect us from evil. Remind your child about their special friend, their angel who walks beside them each and every day and night.

Faith Formation for October
Attached below, please find the October Faith Formation Monthly. This month has many notable feast days and celebrations, including Thanksgiving!
The reflection question on page 1 challenges us to develop our own litany of thanks and turn that into action. Check out the video learning clip on the Catholic Social Teaching of Stewardship. The third page invites us to pray the rosary more – with our students and for ourselves!
Covid Communication
Good communication is important, so that other families can monitor for symptoms and the school can make decisions about extra cleaning.
Healthy Hunger!
Father James Whelihan School uses Healthy Hunger to offer fun lunches and special events to the students. We try to book these fun lunches every Friday (except for school holidays) and there will be a variety of options like Subway, Edo, Opa , Souvlaki, Boston Pizza, etc. You can also pay for special events like the Harvest dance, cookie day, popcorn day, etc. The elementary students have their lunch delivered to the classroom and junior high students pick up their lunch in the foyer. Any proceeds from these fun lunches and special events go directly back into the school to fund special events like free pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, the Welcome Barbecue and Play Day.
Go to www.HealthyHunger.ca and click “REGISTER STUDENT”. After your account is created, you will be able to view all up-coming Fun Lunches and special events, place orders, and then pay for your orders Online with Visa, MasterCard, or Interac Debit. www.healthyhunger.ca

Health Measures
Our "better normal" includes the 5 Health Measures explained by our Superintendent, Dr Szumlas, in a recent email. This includes:
1. Daily health checks and health monitoring (using this checklist)
2. Handwashing
3. Sanitizing
4. Wearing masks. CCSD is requiring all students from kindergarten to Grade 12, as well as staff, to wear masks indoors for the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. Staff at non-school worksites are asked to wear masks in common areas but may remove it when they are in their office or workstation.
5. Physical distancing, where reasonable and possible.
Thank you for your cooperation and support!
