Bencik's Buzz

I hope each of our families enjoyed the extra day off yesterday. We are "buzzing" with excitement this week. There are so many fun activities taking place in the building. Our book fair is going on throughout the week. We have picture day and game night tomorrow. Also, don't forget about ice cream Friday!

I am also pleased to announce that our school and the middle school will be the first to receive library renovations starting this summer. We will be conducting focus groups of parents, teachers, staff members, and students. If you would like to participate in the focus groups to help design the space, please email me at abencik@d123.org. I groups will take place on September 13th and September 20th. I can't wait to see what we create!

Picture Day

Picture Day will be tomorrow, Wednesday, September 8th. Please see the attached flyer. A hard copy will be coming home in your child's back pack last week.

Busing- Update

After speaking with the bus company this week, we hope to have the route fixed by Thursday. Please have your child at the stop according to the bus time listed in Skyward. We thank you for your patience. The routes in the afternoon have seemed to move to a more normal time frame. We will continue to keep our families updated. A flyer is attached if you know of anyone looking for work.

Traffic

NO CARS will be allowed in the school parking lots during arrival and dismissal times. Families with parking passes should only use the front lot. Students are expected to report to their designated doors for drop off. Please note we follow all traffic signs and symbols in the community. Please do not park on any yellow painted areas in the community or run the stop signs. Our police officers will begin to issue tickets moving forward. We are trying to keep our students safe.

Quarantining Students

If your child has any signs or symptoms of not feeling well, we encourage you to keep them home and monitor the case. As students are testing positive for covid please notify the school, we are looking at cases individually and contact tracing accordingly. In the event your child will need to quarantine, the school will reach out. Per the guidelines, students will need to quarantine if they are directly exposed without a mask, for more than fifteen minutes within a six foot distance.

Welcome to Hometown, Mr. Carson!

*How long and what grades have you taught?*

"This will be my third year teaching! I have been a second grade teacher, an academic specialist, and now a third grade teacher! "

*If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?*

"If I could travel anywhere, I would probably travel through Europe! I love the idea of backpacking and exploring new cultures and new places."

*What is the best thing about working at Hometown?*

"I have loved the families and staff at Hometown! They have been very welcoming as I have transitioned over and I am excited to continue working with them this year."

*What is your favorite food?*

"My favorite food is cheese pizza. I could probably have it for every meal if I could. (Maybe not breakfast though since I love my coffee too much!)

*Who is someone you admire and why?*

"I admire my mother. She has been an inspirational figure in my life as she cares so much about education and has fostered the love of learning in me."
