Our POPs Winners!

The Pride of Pickerington (POP) award goes to those teachers who exemplify all aspects of the teaching profession. They are nominated and then voted on by their peers. This is a very big honor to even be nominated, but our winners Becca Kovar and Crystal Raines deserve a HUGE shoutout for all their hard work and dedication to the profession and their students. Great Job!

Congratulations to Bedelia K. who spelled "blissfully" correctly in the 7th round of the 2021 Pickerington Elementary Spelling Bee on Wednesday afternoon. She is our school level champion and will advance to the next round of competition, to be determined. We had a tie for second place with Chanden S. and Elnathan M.

Thank you to all of the participants, families, and 4th grade teachers, as well as to our Bee Pronouncer, Ms. Westwood and Bee Judges, Mrs. Horsford and Mrs. Welch.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children ages birth until 5 years old, no matter their family’s income. These books are typically sent out on a monthly basis. According to readingrockets.org, reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. If you are interested in signing up or learning more about this program click here.

Fee Reminder

A reminder to those who haven’t paid your student fees for the 2020-2021 school year, please do so as soon as possible.

Each year the district assesses a fee to all students for supplies and consumable materials. The deadline for paying fees has passed. To make a payment, log in to your Parent Portal on Infinite Campus. You may also send a check to the school with your student made payable to Pickerington Local Schools or PLSD. To ensure proper posting, please reference your student's name and student ID. If school fees are not paid, it will result in grades and transcripts being held until payment is received.

Here are the fees for each grade level:

Kindergarten - $19.00

First Grade - $17.00

Second Grade - $17.50

Third Grade - $22.00

Fourth Grade - $23.50

If you have questions regarding fees, please contact Pickerington Elementary at 614-548-1400 or call the Treasurer's Office at 614-833-2110.

Pickerington Elementary Staff "Shout Out"

Brrrr!

Just a reminder that Ohio weather can be sporadic and the temperature changes all the time. Please have your student wear the proper jackets and coats to ensure their comfort while playing outside during recess.

If your child needs a new coat or does not have heavy enough to block out the cold, please contact our school counselor Ms. Kendra Stewart at kendra_stewart@plsd.us and she will be able to confidentially assist you and your child's needs.

Calamity Days?

Calamity days are not school closure days as they have been in the past. Calamity days have been converted to virtual learning days. You will note that students are still required to attend school virtually from home.

All students need to log in for attendance through Infinite Campus on the calamity virtual learning day. Note that Infinite Campus may be slightly delayed for a student who would have otherwise been “in person.”

Students will be able obtain assignments via SeeSaw in grades K-4 and Google Classroom in grades 5-12 starting at 10:00 AM. Virtual work needs to be issued for the students who were scheduled to attend in-person. This is under the assumption the opposite cohort already has direction on what work needs completed on the planned-for virtual day.

All teachers will give their best attempt to arrange for and communicate with their students to attend at minimum one Google Meet session. Invites should come from the homeroom teacher. For related arts teachers, 1:00-2:00 has been reserved for Google Meets and other work with students. We are sympathetic to the adjustments families need to make for a calamity virtual learning day, but strongly encourage students to attend their Meet times if possible.

VLA will follow their normal schedule to the best extent possible. Any changes will be communicated by the classroom teacher.

Please contact your building principal or classroom teachers for further guidance or clarification.

Sincerely,

Sabrina Woodruff,

Chief Academic Officer
