Ohio Association for Gifted Children Parent Day
Consider attending the OAGC Parent Day on Sunday, October 15, 2017! See the Parent Day at the Ohio Association for Gifted Children Flyer to register. Cost is only $5.00. Connect with other parents of gifted children, attend breakout sessions and gather resources from experts in the field of gifted education. Visit OAGC Parents for more information.
PACE - Parents for Academic Challenge and Enrichment
PACE is the parent group in Columbus City Schools that advocates for the academic and social-emotional needs of gifted and talented students. They hold monthly meetings that are open to all parents in the district. Become involved with PACE and plan to attend the first meeting on September 28, 2017 - Meet the School Board Candidates. Parenting Questions Answered
Do you have questions about underachievement? Social Issues? Organizational Skills? Sylvia Rimm Ph.D, Director of the Family Achievement Clinic in Cleveland, has a comprehensive website for parents with many articles about parenting gifted children. It's a nice website to get answers to questions on these topics and many more. Sylvia Rimm Ph.D Website
Byrdseed Parent Resources
Byrdseed is another great website find answers to parenting questions. Byrdseed is all about better understanding gifted learners and there is a page dedicated to parenting gifted children. Topics such as anxiety, intensity, motivation, etc... are covered. There is also a free mailing list that parents can join.
Parent Volunteer Opportunity
If any parents are interested in starting a chess club, please contact Beth Gasior at egasior@columbus.k12.oh.us for resources and suggestions. CCS has a long tradition of chess in the schools and it often takes parent involvement to keep it going. The Gifted and Talented Department sponsors chess tournaments throughout the school year. Please consider volunteering!
