Mrs. Hladun's Tidings
We had a wonderful opening to the school year - I heard so many of your children glowing about their new teachers, their friends (new and returning), new supplies, and new learning - it's heart warming to hear their enthusiasm!
This week, we invite all Grade 1-5 parents to join us at Back to School Night. Please not that this is a parents only evening, although we do plan to offer supervision on the playground for families who do not have a day care option. There are three parts to the evening:
Part 2: Classroom Visit (hosted by LCES Teachers) There will be two identical presentations in each classroom so that you can meet more than one teacher. Please report directly to your child's classroom for presentation 1 or 2.
- presentation 1 from 6-6:35 pm
- presentation 2 from 6:40-7:15 pm
Please be sure to visit the PTC, WatchDOGS and STAR information tables!
Part 3: PTC is hosting a Dine Out at Panda Express
Get dinner before or on your way home from LCE; 20% comes back to our school to support PTC initiatives. Click here for the Panda Express flier you'll need!
Please be sure to sign in at the front office if you'd like to accompany your child past the gate starting on Monday!
Emergency Cards
Returning families in grades 1-5 should have received a letter from WPUSD with details about how to access the PowerSchool Parent Portal to access attendance and update Emergency Contact information. If you did not receive the letter, please contact our front office at 916 434-5292.
Please read the letter carefully, and note that you have until 8/31 at 5pm to update your information online.
Initial reports from parents indicate that the process is straightforward and simple. If you are unable to complete this important step at home, please come into the office; we have a computer available for parents to use.
Air Quality & Recess
To that end, we will be closely monitoring the Spare the Air and the AirNow websites in order to inform our plans for recess. In the event that the air is deemed 'unhealthy for sensitive groups,' we will be offering an indoor recess option. If the air quality is in the 'unhealthy' or higher range, we will offer only indoor recess.
If your child is in a sensitive group, please be sure to communicate with our front office.
Parking & Drop Off
End of the Day
Our end of the day bell rings at 2:40 pm for grades 1-5 and PM K. (AM K dismisses at 11:20 am). Your children will be so excited to see you! It’s important to start establishing a meeting spot or plan for after school.
Children who are getting picked up by a vehicle will be waiting for you behind the blue dots between the administration building and the MPR or behind the blue dots between the back of the administration building and the kindergarten playground.
If you are picking your child up in a vehicle, please plan to drive through our main driveway to collect him/her. We always do our best to keep the traffic flowing.
When you come into the driveway, please stay in or directly next to your car. Do not leave your vehicle unattended unless it is in a parking stall or along the exterior community streets.
If your child(ren) walk or ride a bike/scooter/skateboard home, please encourage them to be careful, walk with a buddy and use the crosswalks. All children under age 18 who are riding a bike/scooter/skateboard must wear a helmet per CA law.
We’d ask that if you bring your family pet with you to pick up your child, that you do not take the animal past the blue dots to ensure everyone feels safe.
Food Service at LCES
Breakfast is served each morning from 7:45-8:05; students come into the MPR through the doors adjacent to STAR to get breakfast.
You can add funds to your child's breakfast/lunch account via www.myschoolbucks.com (you can access this link on a computer, via our website, via the link below, or via our school app). You can also drop off a check or cash at the front office and we'll ensure it gets to our food service team so it is applied to your child's account. If need, you can send your child with funds to directly hand to Miss Vickie at lunch time (keep in mind your child may have recess before eating lunch).
There have been some technical difficulties with www.myschoolbucks.com but our district Food Service department is working to fix that ASAP!
More details about our food service program can be found online and there is always a link in the Colt Connection (at the bottom) to their website.
