Balance Feels Best
I take care of my body by eating right, exercising, and getting sleep. I spend time with family and friends. I learn in lots of ways and lots of places, not just at school. I find meaningful ways to help others.
ABRI Data
In April 2014, MES students had a total of 75 referrals so far. We are currently at 55 for this school year! That is excellent news. Thank you for all your hard work reteaching the expectations and following 2RSK yourselves.
Additionally, Mrs. Esterle, Mrs. Wilson and myself were asked to present at a district PBIS meeting. We've all seen the green, yellow, red triangle that demonstrates how our student population should be represented in terms of tiers:
- 85% of our students should be in green meaning they are responding to general, school wide instruction.
- 5-10% of our students should be in yellow, meaning they need more group, specialized instruction
- 1-5% of our students are represented by red because they need intense, individualized instruction
Although we had heard this, for me personally it was the first time I looked at our triangle for behavior data:
3% of our students have earned 2-5 referrals, placing them in the yellow category.
AND we have ZERO students in the red, which is AWESOME!
When looking at the trend for the past four years, 2014-2015 has been a spectacular year for teaching expectations and student behavior. More students than ever are in the green and for the first year, we do not have any students in the red.
Benchmarks of Quality
During the 2012-2013 school year, MES received a score of 93% fidelity. In 2013-2014, MES received a score of 68% fidelity and this year we were determined to be at 87% fidelity. The areas marked for improvement were:
- Rules developed and posted for specific settings (settings where data suggest rules are needed)
- Ratios of reinforcement to corrections are high
- Students are involved in identifying/developing incentives
- A behavioral curriculum includes teaching expectations and rules
- Lessons use a variety of teaching strategies
- Strategies to share key features of SWPBS program with families/community are developed and implemented
- Plans for orienting incoming staff and students are developed and implemented
- Plans for involving families/community are developed & implemented
- Expected behavior routines in classrooms are taught
- Classroom teachers use immediate and specific praise
- Procedures exist for tracking classroom behavior problems
- Classrooms have a range of consequences/interventions for problem behavior that are documented and consistently delivered
If you would like more information on any of these items or on the Benchmarks of Quality assessment, please see Mrs. Barron.
